Now THERE'S a baseball fan!
I think I might have to have an ice cold beer just to get in the spirit of it.

Katy, I also support the Cubs, they are my #2 team!

Posted: 2/17/06 at 12:33pmI just might have to head out myself (after work, of course) and grab an Old Style. *Sigh* Old Style in cheap plastic cups, peanuts, drunk fans, Cubs game. I miss summer.

Oh to spend my summer in a drunken haze at 1060 W. Addison.
#29re: Spring Training!!!
Posted: 2/17/06 at 1:23pmI'll be there a couple times this summer. I love Wrigleyville. If I'm not at the game, I like Sports Corner, Murphy's, and Cubby Bear for watching the games.

Posted: 2/17/06 at 1:25pmI've only been to the Cubby Bear. Definitely a great place to hang out if you can't actually be at the game.

Pitchers and catchers for the Cubs reported to Mesa earlier this week.
That other team in Chicago -- I can't quite remember the name, but their pitchers and catchers reported today.
And Bernie's has always been a favorite hang-out both before and after a game, but I have to admit that I think I liked it better before they spiffed it up.
GO CUBS!

Oh, Stagedoor2, are you perhaps referring to the World Champion Chicago White Sox there? Are you having trouble adjusting to the fact that the World Champions play on the South Side of Chicago?
As a Chicago expatriate and continued Sox fan, I felt someone ought to remind you (and the board).
I'll concede, though: Wrigley Field does kick Comiskey Park's a**. (I'll never call it "U.S. C*llul*r.")

Huh? Yeah, I was out of the country most of October -- mmmm hmmm, that's it. Yeah, I missed all the hoopla (don't I wish). Was there some sort of parade??? Maybe one that monopolized the tv stations for hours one Friday? I thought I heard rumbings of something, but figured it wasn't important.
I will say that it was great for the city to have a championship, I just wish it had been the Bulls again. I do agree about the "U.S. C*ellul*r" reference -- it always cracks me up when I hear people refer to it as "the Joan" (Cusack, who does the ads). When I have to call it anything, it's Comiskey.

The Cubs are my NL team, but I can't say that I follow them (or any NL team) too closely.
Aw, Cano! I hope he can repeat his 2005 numbers. I'm so glad the Yanks actually held onto young talent for once.
I'll be cheering on my old, decrepit Mike Mussina. Even if he can't pitch anymore, he's still sexy.

Moose is just aging. And you have to respect a guy who can graduate from Stanford and pitch as well as he has. If he manages to make the curve of his decline more shallow and lasts a few more years, he could make the Hall.
Cano is promising, but he's actually more impatient than Sori was as a rookie. Which I didn't think was physically possible, but there it is. I'm praying he learns to take a few pitches...maybe even a walk every once in a while. Being over-dependent on batting average is never a good thing.
The Yankees sophmore I'm really watching is Chien-Ming Wang. If he succeeds, he'll be the first starter we've developed since Andy Pettitte, unless you count Ted Lilly.

I agree. He actually declined an offer out of high school to go to Stanford... and graduated summa cum laude in 3 and 1/2 years, no less. He'd be smart to develop a real knuckleball at this point in his career.
I'll just pray that Cano is open to change more so than Soriano was. Soriano was so stubborn in SO many ways.

Posted: 2/17/06 at 6:41pmI'm hoping that this is the year for the Tigers. By "the year" I mean they end with a winning record. I'm holding my breath on that one.

I love Spring Training stories. There's absolutely nothing going on, but the writers are so desperate for material they completely fall all over the human interest angle.
