Here, he steps away from his two "types" to play a third figure, and he does it masterfully (even though it's just a new version of his classic role)."

perhaps it's more accurate to say, playing two roles "that he's known for." he was also solomon grundy in JL, "terror beyond," which was basically a play on hulk.
