its probably the norm in an age-obsessed industry but some stars really go too far when lying about their age, especially when it's so obvious that the age they claim to be isn't the age they really are.
case in point: just read a news article on irene cara. she states she was born in 1964. voter registration records in florida as well as the imdb and other sources list her birth year as 1959. when the associated press questioned her she had "no comment".
i thought that maybe the 1959 birth year was an error but it turns out that may just be her birth year. if she had in fact been born in 1964 as she claims then that means that she made her movie debut in 1975's "Aaron Loves Angela" at the very young age of 11?!!!! I seriously doubt that she was 12 years old when she appeared in the 1976 movie "Sparkle". That would have made her 16 when she gained stardom in the movie "Fame"....uh i don't think so.
i mean its her business if she wants to shave 5 years off her age, but then is 5 years that big of a difference?

i'm more curious as to why you're snooping about Irene Cara's voting registration records. Is life that quiet? I can give you some excitement Marquise, so you won't have to worry about how old Irene Cara is.
And what is so wrong with lying about one's age?
LOL midtowngym....i wasnt snooping around her voter registration records, the fact was stated on the abcnews.com website.
i mean to each his own. if she wants to lie about her age its all good but when so much evidence points to the contrary...
just dont get this big hangup about age is all...
actually i am kind of bored today...why dont u fly down to miami midtowngym and show me some excitement....

The big hangup is the industry she's in. Goes back to the leading men in films can age all they want, but the women must stay young. Look at all the movies where the leading men are in their 40's-50's while the ladies are in their 20's-early 30's. She's just trying to stay alive.
Don't you know the rules?? "A actress should never reveal her true age."

I have been lying about my age for years. I am 29 and HOLDING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Marquise, we are in a business where youth is higly valued and very important for women. There are fewer roles for women of a certain age than for younger ones so, we lie and we do what we can to maintain the image of youth and beauty. Acting is a tough profession for women.

As far as revealing my age, I'm 39 from now on.
"Im going to be Thirty real soon and I'm real glad..."
I'll be 43 in December and there's nothing I can do about it so I might as well be happy!
My friend lies all the time, even in interviews, it's strange because his real age is a matter of public record.
HAHA! Oh I am always honest about my 38 years of horror!
Hey redhot I'll be 42 in September! I don't lie about it either, but I'm not a performer.
If Page Six, The Star, People or anyone else cares to know, I am 47.
i guess she really did mean it when she sang: "....I'm gonna live forever!...."

I'd probably lie about my age if I could remember what it was...
(they say the mind is the second thing to go!)
No reason to lie.
Just don't tell...
