1.
A vacation that is spent at one's home enjoying all that home and one's home environs have to offer.
"Even though I live and work in New York, I don't always get to enjoy all it has to offer, what with my work commitments, but I sure did have an awesome time here during my spring staycation."
2.
A vacation spent close to home.
"With the price of gas soaring, a staycation is what most Americans will experience during the summer of 2008."
So, I ended up having a 'staycation' this weekend, and it was such fun! Some plans made in advance. Some impromptu plans. Loved enjoying the weekend at home...
Anyone else planning a 'Staycation'?
I think staying home is the new going out!

I really, REALLY hope this word doesn't catch on. I hate it already.
Same with the term "green."

Some of my favorite moments from my 'staycation' this weekend:
Getting a last-minute reservation in a favorite restaurant on Saturday night.
Window-shopping at Tiffany's.
Riding the carousel in Central Park.
Eating ice cream on a bench in the park.
Finding favorite movies in the 'sale bin' at a store, which wasn't very crowded.
Having a picnic on the 'patio' on the roof of my building.
Being home for an impromptu party with friends, cupcakes and champagne!
Taking a nap!

Excellent Addy.
A staycation with you is a Jolly Holiday!

(I have to agree - the word is annoying. But, I like the idea that people are embracing staying home and enjoying what they have in their own backyards!)
Glebby, it was a Poppins kind of day!
So, what would you do on a staycation?

I don't know if this counts, as there was a good bit of driving involved, but I did take time off from work for it...
Last weekend, a friend and I drove up to Atlanta to pick up some glassware for a banquet. We left town at 9am with coffee and a stack of CDs. We laughed and sang our way up there, picking up the glasses just before noon. We had lunch with his father, and stopped by a couple of other places in Atlanta. On the way back down, we detoured through Pine Mountain to look at some lake front property he was "considering buying" (translation - there was no way in hell he could afford it, but we could have fun looking at it). We made it back just in time to book it to our Relay For Life benefit where we spent the night selling food and coffee on a football field until dawn, making it back to my house at exactly the same time I had left it the previous morning.
It was an intense 24 hours, and by all rights I should have been exhausted and drained, but I can't remember the last time I felt so exhilarated! It had everything - business, family, fun, and good work for a good cause. I felt like I had been gone for a week when I got back to my old routine. I couldn't believe how refreshed I felt after such a short break.

Posted: 5/27/08 at 12:12amThe cost of gas allegedly kept a lot of people home for the weekend, so when I went to Whole Foods on Friday night I expected the usual patience-trying crowd. Surprisingly, hardly anyone was there. I considered that part of the staycation. :)
