The movie is A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION - based on Garrison Keillor's radio show. Streep and Tomlin play sisters who are in a folk singing group.

The script is a fictionalized version of "behind-the-scenes" at the radio broadcast. The characters are the various actors, musicians, sound engineers, etc, who've worked togeher rfor many years and have complcated interrelationships.

We can assume Lyle Lovett and Maya Rudolph will also be portraying singers.
