Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:09pmWhy "Music of the Night"? There are about 50 other songs she could have plugged into that spot.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:11pmI agree. I hate Music of the Night.
re: Streisand in Philadelphia set list and other comments#29
Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:13pmSo true. If she wanted to do something off the Broadway album, the right choice would have been that stunning I Loves You Porgy into Porgy, I's Yo' Woman Now arrangement.

Her version of "Music of the Night" with Crawford on her "Back To Broadway" album was a waste. That arrangement was horrific.
Hopefully they changed the arrangement for her duet with Il Divo.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:17pmI'm no fan, so I don't care; but if I were, I'd be very disappointed to be seeing her at a venue like the Wachovia Center. Why not the classy Kimmel Center or even classier, Academy of Music?
re: Streisand in Philadelphia set list and other comments#32
Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:18pmVenue size? I don't know those places, so I'm just speculating.
re: Streisand in Philadelphia set list and other comments#33
Posted: 10/5/06 at 3:20pmBut that's my point. The Wachovia Center is an arena. If I were to go see my favorite singer, I'd want it to be in a theater!

That song you were talking about is "Emotion" from the album titled "Emotion" - that whole album, including "Left in the Dark", is my guilty pleasure!
The set list is incredible. I, too, have longed to hear her sing something *different*. Having attended her concert in 2000, I'm very pleased that she chose to go this way with this one.
Cannot wait till Monday!!

Posted: 10/5/06 at 4:34pmI'll listen to her wail any day of the week. Barbra's belting is ear candy. It's thrilling. For some reason, it doesn't grate on me the way many of today's divas--i.e. Carey--do.

If I asked, think she'd do "Walk Closely Now" in a white suit and afro while making chicken arms?
I'd love that.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 4:38pmI know she probably doesn't want to step on La LuPone's material, but I think she should do "With One Look" (since she recorded it first). For her, it's a more interesting song than "Music of the Night."
re: Streisand in Philadelphia set list and other comments#41
Posted: 10/5/06 at 4:39pmAnything's better than Music of the Night.

BwayLover, I also love the whole Emotion album, particularly "Best I Could" and "Clear Sailing," in addition to "Left in the Dark." It is a true guilty pleasure!
In response to the previous question, Evergreen with Il Divo was interesting. She sang the beginning by herself, then each of the Il Divo guys sang a few lines in a different foreign language along with her.
I apologize -- she apparently did NOT sing Who Are You Now? She made reference to it and the orchestra played part of it but she never actually sang it. I've corrected the set list in the first message.
There are many songs on The Broadway Album ("Not While I'm Around" in particular, but really any of them except "Adelaide's Lament") that I would rather have heard than "Music of the Night."

I'm so excited for "Down With Love", "When The Sun Comes Out", "Starting Here, Starting Now", "Music That Makes Me Dance", "Have I Stayed To Long At The Fair" that I can forgive and forget about "Music of the Night".
Just thinking about Streisand singing those songs gives me chills!

I think everyone has a wish list of what BS should sing.
I am not going to see her show; I saw the other 2 shows and felt that for "Timeless" she was on autopilot.
1. The laziness that has crept into her work since her marriage is very discouraging. The "ping" that was in her best work has gone. I do not need to see a pingless "Woman in the Moon." [Barbra: you should do "Everything" from ASIB instead of "Moon."]
2. While I am in about 90% agreement to her politics, I am not in agreement in the way she presents them. If you want me to take you seriously, get out of that garish Malibu compound and see what is going on in the world.
After 9-11, she did nothing for NYC, her hometown and the town that made her, and that is unforgivable.
3. Most of the songs on the current songlist have been recorded. Do I want to pay all that money to hear her sing those songs when I know the records are better?
4. From what I gather many people were offended by the Bush skit. It is one thing to disagree with him, it is another to participate in a long and distasteful sketch that resulted in some heckling from the crowd. If I am paying $750 I want her to sing not to spout politics ad nauseum.
5. Il Divo. A waste of time and money. If she wanted guys to sing backup she could have hired guys from Broadway who would love to work with her. Or how about hiring Steven Brinberg to sing the "One Less Bell" medley with her.
If you see her, I wish you a wonderful and satisying experience. For me, I will instead listen to "Heart Don't Change My Mind" [the best track from Emotion]. :)

I am so sick of listening to people bitch about artists who choose to include politics in THEIR show. it is THEIR venue to express themselves how ever they please. and if it's just too much for you, then turn the page, change the channel, or don't put your money down for their product or ticket.
and unless you have been following babs' every move as well as her checkbook, I would caution making such sweeping statements about her or any other person you do not even know.

I am entitled to my opinion.
She is entitled to her opinion.
You are entitled to your opinion.
This venue is supposed to allow the presentation of opinions.
What's the problem?

oh you are definitely entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
and if you are going to damn any artist for expresiing their opinion, i'm going to damn you for that.

Why don't you read my post clearer?
I am not against her opinions; I am against the way she articulates them. And I am also skeptical of her views on the world based on her cocooned existence.

Posted: 10/5/06 at 9:34pmI can't stand the sound of her voice. Is that allowed?
