Streisand to Sing for Obama

Barbra Streisand will be among the headliners at a fund-raiser for Barack Obama on Sept. 16, where she will perform for the presidential candidate at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

The plans for the event were outlined this morning and Streisand confirmed that she would take the stage. The hotel ballroom holds an estimated 700 people.

Obama's fund-raiser is expected to be his final visit to raise money here before the general election.

Obama will start the evening with a 5 p.m. dinner event for about 250 people at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, the historic estate once owned by the legendary Doheny family. Tickets for the event are $28,500.

Later, he will attend a reception at the Beverly Wilshire, followed by Streisand's special performance. Tickets for the event are $2,500 per person.

Co-hosts for event include the DreamWorks team of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, as well as political consultant Andy Spahn. It's also being organized with Obama's Southern California finance team.

Streisand endorsed Obama after he secured the nomination in June. She had endorsed Hillary Clinton in the primary, and appeared and spoke at a fund-raiser for her in January. She also sang at a concert for John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000.

The timing of this Obama visit is giving new meaning to the words, "quick turnaround," as organizers have just eight days to put the fetes together.

Considering her track record, Obama may want to pass on her concert.

She also sang for Bill Clinton also so her track record is 2 out of three- Clinton won, Gore won, Kerry did not.

Finally! A choice that will bring out the young people.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

LOL! Tell yourself whatever gets you through the day.

The Republicans got Ted Nugent and Pat Boone. We get Streisand, Springsteen, Bon Jovie,Heart,Jackson Browne, and so on and so on.

re: Streisand to Sing for Obama

Thank goodness we have people like Streisand and others who can use their celebrity to their advantage - educating people about the important issues and getting people to vote.

Streisand is very passionate about the environment, human rights, same sex marriage, AIDS, the economy, global warming, etc.

I find the "entertainment" factor of both parties pretty amusing. Everybody I know just bates their breath waiting to hear from Barbra Streisand and Pat Boone!

Say what you will about Streisand, but she brings in the money and the Republicans know it.She can easily raise a few million for him in a night. Can Pat Boone do that?

Streisand is always right regarding her information about politics. She knows her stuff, she does her research.

In addition to singing for Clinton, she also sang for Kennedy, as well.

This is wonderful news. I even got an email from Variety.com announcing. The polls today with all the Republican bounce chatter will at least galanize our base beyond complacency. I've been walking around today, noting that everyone is shaking their heads -- shaken to their core -- at the prospect of a McCain-Palin ascendency in the next 50 days.

If ever there were a time for La Streisand to sing "Children Will Listen," it's now.

New polls are out showing it a virtual dead heat:

ABC/WaPo: Obama 47%, McCain 46%.

CBS: McCain 46%, Obama 44%.

CNN: McCain 48%, Obama 48%.

And, Obama just released an ad saying that McCain is lying abou his record. It is a pretty good ad.

This comment was amusing to me:

Well isn't that special? Glad to see McCain's "accusation" that Obama is an elitist celebrity candidate who is out of touch with mainstream America isn't true. And only $28,500 to hear this hack sing? Wow.

This is my favorite! Babs has said she will sing this when Obma wins at his inaugural ball. Happy days WILL be here again when a Democrat wins!

They'd better strip search every single person going to that concert and make sure no video or audio gets out. I can hear the McCain campaign now.

Jim Bailey?? Please. This is not 1979. It is Steven Brinberg who is the 'real' Barbra.

Sorry but if Barbra wants Obama elected she will have to do more than sing a few songs and pretend to be sociable.

Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?
