Subway Question!

Posted: 7/25/08 at 4:20pmI've seen many folks carrying a large purse or basket on their laps and suddenly seen a little puppy peeking out over the top. They aren't allowed here either (except for service animals) but I love seeing them on your system!

London's Tube has them all beat.
I'll tell you who has London beat for subways, Russia. The Moscow stations are designed with some of the most exotic marble and granites, but my favorite trains were the Belarussian Metro. The Minsk trains ran like clockwork. Every 4 minutes during the day and every 8 minutes at night, until after 11 or so when they slow down to 10 minutes. They had beautiful sculpted granite and marble stations, too, with crystal chandeliers. Each with a different artistic concept.
I do hate to think of who quarried the marble and granite (from the Urals and Siberia) and under what conditions. But then, there are the pyramids of Egypt and other "great archaeological wonders" , too.

Here you go Gothampc, tell me if London's tube has this beat, Or the Paris Metro for that matter. I tried to find something for the Minsk stations with their fabulous folk art motifs, but from the St. Petersburg and Moscow links, you will get the idea.

I enjoy riding New York's subway whenever I visit the city. I've never had any bad experiences and I love the fact that it goes everywhere you could possibly want to go in the city. Here in the DC area we have the Metro system, which goes to a lot of places but it doesn't go everywhere you want to go (like Tyson's Corner and Dulles Airport, but they're working on that).
I think that the Metro is a little more high-tech than NYC's subway, cause Metro has the electronic signs on the platforms that tell you how many minutes till the next train and they also have the platform lights that blink whenever a train approaches. But one thing I hate is how dark some of the Metro stations are. NYC's stations are always well lit.

Posted: 7/26/08 at 8:29pmThere are a few stations that have the electronic signs i beleive. I nkow tehy were working on putting them in at a lot of LIRR stations of the past couple years, so maybe they'll get to work on the subway too.
