there was one gay guy that used to hang out at bar that i went to when i first moved to sunnyside, but that was years ago. there's a coffee house on skillman that might be a good place for ... coffee. the irishness of the neighborhood is ingrained, it's even more irish a few blocks up in woodside. if you venture onto the other side of queens boulevard you can find some nice authentic spanish restaurants. there's also a romanian place on skillman and a few more scattered around. some of the pubs turn into discos on staurday night but are populated by mostly aggressive toughs in the 18-22 age group and young girls with extraordinarily large hair.
that big empty hole in the ground on queens blvd. between 41st and 42nd used to house bloom's pub, which while it was an irish establishment was quite nice and had a decent menu, unfortunately fire claimed it along with everything else there.
i'm not sure about whether there's much of a gay and lesbian community here, but i can tell you that gay and lesbian groups were welcomed to march in the st. patrick's day parade that runs through woodside and sunnyside. this link might help ya...
