The "only" upside is my rent is 600 bucks for a huge one-bedroom...with a pool outside my door, the downside is EVERYTHING else!

we weighed the pros and cons of continueing to live in Astoria also - but I just love being in the center of everything - we love the easy accessibility of Hell's kitchen so we are making the compromise of giving up much more money to have a cute little one bedroom, 5th floor walk-up with skylights and a nice view. We think its worth it (especially when I start auditioning again and won't have to commute in to do them!)

I lived for a small amount of time on W 44th btw 9th and 10th and LOVED the street and the neighborhood...and your place sounds great!

Well, I'm on W64th and West End... and I'm near everything. I have a gym and laundry in the building, courtyard... nice view... and comparatively to the other apartments I've looked at in Manhattan at the same price range... it is very spacious... good lighting (I think natural light is so important and so many apartments I've looked at have sucky lighting). Right near the 1/9... short walking distance from the express. Ten blocks north I'm in the center of everything Upper West Side... and ten blocks south and I'm in Hell's Kitchen. See... good location. :) WOO yeah for my little apartment!

Natural light IS important - that was the deciding factor in this apartment choice. We have skylights in both the living room and bedroom and windows all along the west facing wall - its very light and there is a nice cross-breeze. We're also both within walking distance to work - no more commuting - YEAH!..my gym is located all over town and there's laundry in the building!

Astoria is nice - we're there now. It's a quiet little neighborhood community - but we just miss the pace of the city (well I do)...and the ability to get anywhere you need to go on foot...thats a great plus to living in Hell's kitchen.
If you move to Astoria and are close enough, go to Michael's on Broadway for breakfast on the weekends - pricey but the food is great. In Hell's kitchen it's the Renaissance, hands down (52nd and 9th) - they even have the 10% equity discount - can't beat that!

Thanks for the info on Astoria, a few friends live there and it's a place I might look into, I lived in so many different neighborhoods in the city itself and I love them all, if possible I'd like to return to the Tribeca area....by the end of the year Eddie Varley is OUT of Staten Island!
