I have to say that I agree in the sentiment of not liking the darker, grittier direction that superhero movies are taking these days. That's why the early 2000s Spider-Man movies will always be my favorites of the modern superhero films (well, the first two, anyway), because they knew how to mix serious storytelling with just the right amount of comic book goofiness, something that we see less and less of in superhero movies today.

Thread brings to mind this quote I've seen before, from Neil Gaiman's SUPERGODS:
...I tend to believe the reverse is true: that it's adults who have the most trouble separating fact from fiction. A child knows that real crabs on the beach do not sing or talk like the cartoon crabs in The Little Mermaid. A child can accept all kinds of weird-looking creatures and bizarre occurrences in a story because the child understands that stories have different rules that allow for pretty much anything to happen.
Adults, on the other hand, struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multi-billion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.
As for light vs dark storytelling, I was eight years old when the 60s Batman tv show premiered. Perfect age. For me it wasn't too campy. I was glued to the set. And even now with my Comixology membership, I find myself going toward more purchases of DC and Marvel comics with the 10cent (little before my time) and 12cent comics from my childhood. For me, they're just more enjoyable to read.
Still looking forward to the movie. They'll be best buds by the end!
