[God, the world is coming to an end....I'm posting a SF thread. But, in the interest of public awareness, I thought some of you Foster-aphiles would find this interesting....]
It was announced last week that the city council of Germantown, TN (suburb of Memphis) was closing down the Morgan Woods Children's Theatre after 15 years of operation. It's been a successful children's theatre program in the area, giving scores of kids production and performance experience through the years. The public outcry --at least among the arts community-- was loud.
Sutton Foster's parents live in Germantown. A couple of years ago, before Sutton Foster was SUTTON FOSTER and merely a dropout from Carnegie Mellon, she came to live with her parents and worked at the Morgan Woods Children's Theatre. Everyone loved her (she apparently was quite good at what she did), and she's kept in contact with them ever since.
Last night, Monday, May 23, there was a Germantown City Council meeting, and the closing of Morgan Woods was discussed, with people making statements from the general population. One of those people was...you guessed it....Sutton Foster. She flew in to Memphis yesterday (her day off from LITTLE WOMEN) to show her support and lend some "star power" to the cause. I suppose she's flying back today (Tuesday, May 24) for her performance tonight in the show.
Now we take you back to your regularly scheduled programming
rlbgbc: I don't think Sutton has to be back in New York until the Tony Awards on June 5th. She doesn't have to be back for tonight's show because Little Women closed on Sunday May 22nd.
