How very odd. I'm sure exhibitors and studios argue over proceeds all the time, but this is the first time I've heard of a chain simply refusing to pay and therefore not show a movie.
Of course it would have to be a musical that people in the Midwest might actually go see.

And of course it would be a musical that they would actually refuse to pay for... not a George Clooney film.
I wonder how this will affect the overall box office grosses.

United Artists (Regal) is not showing it here in CO. The movie is on the Landmark theaters' site and is playing outside the downtown Denver area. I have about an hour's hike to get to the theater to see it.
edit: on GP I went to the United Artists site and they just added Sweeney to the downtown Denver theaters. And they are even doing a midnight showing tonight! Hmmmm.

It's just more publicity for the film.
Folks in the area will wonder about why it's not being shown and drive somewhere elese to see it.
These folks are just (excuse me for saying this) cutting off their own noses...

Posted: 12/20/07 at 2:36pmIf they were smart, they'd be fighting to be among the first theatres to show the film this weekend. By the time it opens wide (on Jan. 11th) the studio's cut will have gone way down and their percentage will be overwhelming.
