British tabloids have loads of libel cases! Just because the law is there doesn't mean they respect it! And British tabloids, seen as though we have 'Irish' editions over here (with ads in sterling prices...) they publish the highest load of codswallop known to mankind. They did an article about the tour of Mamma Mia playing in Dublin. They described how the actresses playing Donna and Sophie were 'ecstatic' coming up to their 'big night' in Dublin. It was a matinee performance, on a tour, with performers who've been in 101 other things, yet this was their big night, the paper said. Also, I read an attrocious article about Aer Lingus, the Irish National Flag Carrier, and how, since they've ordered two new planes from Airbus, the French company have scored a major coup over boeing. They made it front page news that the AerlIngus order was a huge deal for Airbus. Airbus only deliver 34 or 35 planes a month, so I can see why two lousy planes being ordered by a relatively small airline would be 'A Major point in the battle between Boeing and Airbus'. Especially since the airline had already announced months before that it would be getting rid of its boeings and buying airbusses in future, I really didn't see it coming.
Okay, that's my rant about crap tabs over. CONTINUE THREAD, SORRY FOR BEING SO OFF-TOPIC.

Aw, I'm glad she is feeling better, Johnny seems like such a good dad.
I truly hope the little girl gets better but something is very fishy here w the diagnosis AND the length of time it took to come up w an effective treatment. "Blood poisoning" is a pretty loose description- what was the infection? We have a large batallion of antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals most of which are pretty effective. If it was tetanus why wasn't she vaccinated? I realize we will almost certainly never get answers but from a medical perspective I find the whole thing just a bit strange.
Still, nobody ( no not even Dollypop) likes the idea of a small child being deathly ill. G*d bless and help her get well.

Blood poisoning, or septicaemia, is a bacterial infection that occurs when bacteria get into the bloodstream and multiply rapidly. Blood poisoning normally happens when bacteria enter the bloodstream in large numbers, and spread too quickly for the immune system to destroy them. Once in the bloodstream, some types of bacteria release poisons known as toxins that attack the body’s tissues. Blood poisoning is a potentially life-threatening infection that must be treated rapidly in order to prevent the infection from spreading to the heart and lungs.
Septicaemia begins as an infection in the walls of the blood vessels, before developing into a tissue infection such as cellulitis. Blood poisoning commonly occurs as a complication of a serious infection, such as a kidney infection. Blood poisoning is dangerous because once bacteria get into the bloodstream, it is difficult to prevent them flowing to the body’s vital organs. Meningitis is caused when the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord become infected and inflamed, which can be a consequence of blood poisoning.
Elderly people with existing health conditions are particularly susceptible to blood poisoning, as are children. The risk of blood poisoning is increased if your immune system has been weakened by a chronic illness, or if you have undergone surgery recently.

Septicaemia is a very serious condition and can be extremely resistant to antibiotics.
I am very very glad she is getting better, but IF the reports are true, her parents should really be more careful with her !!! A child almost dying from a rusty nail, in 2007's Great Britain, is unthinkable !!!!!

Kids do all kinds of strange things that their parents may not know about. My daughter almost died from chicken pox compications at the same age as this little girl and numerous MD's missed it until it was diagnosed over the PHONE by a doctor who just happened to be visiting in Eastern Europe and called to talk to one of the docs in the PICU. And I myself almost lost my arm after a cat bite, AND when nurse removed and IV improperly so things happen and sometimes they are hard to dignose. I'm just glad that this little girl will go home again, healthy and happy. There is nothing worse than having your child-or any child- sick, and knowing that there is nothing you can do.
The actual nail puncture might have been something so minor the child didn't think to say anything until the blood poisoning made her obviously ill. I was always told not to play in the neighbor's chicken coop and when I fell and scraped my leg I was so afraid that I would be yelled at that I hid it from my unsuspecting mother.
