THE EXAM THREAD WHERE I STUCK MY FOOT IN MY MOUTH Retitle: Puppies are cute

Despite, or maybe because of, my immense relief that the most difficult exam of my college career in the most difficult and stressful course of my college career is successfully completed, I managed to unintentionally ruffle a lot of feathers in a few very short minutes. So... puppies are cute. My intentions are not to offend anyone, despite my uncanny ability to put my foot in my mouth, just to express that an exam that I have repeatedly expressed immense worry over is finally, finally completed.

Apologies to any who thought I was trying to be offensive. I had said many times here that this semester has been VERY stressful and that this particular class was the reason, so I was expressing my relief that the largest portion of my grade is behind me and the class is completed. Again, apologies.

And, you know, puppies are cute.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

I'd like to take this opportunity to recognize that today is Holocaust Remembrance Day.

And CM, having just been tested on the subject, I shouldn't have to tell you how offensive many will find the title of your thread.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner in the "most offensive thread title for a stupid reason" catagory.
PEACE.

Altered slightly to appease.

Seriously, though, I celebrate not because of a love of genocide but because this class was the most stressful class I have ever, ever taken. Beyond taxing. I'm just happy it's done.

mmm... still slightly offensive, there.

Yeah, CM, I think you should change the thread and subject to something else entirely. I know you didn't mean it, but I am feeling seriously offended. And I'm not Jewish, in case that matters to you.

I agree with everyone else. Like Rath said, I know you didn't mean in the way it looks but I would still change it if I were you....pronto...quick even.

Not mention the fact that you are "celebrating". Perhaps you need to take the class again. Perhaps you should be reflecting on what the class means to you and how it has changed you.
PEACE.

GAAAAH!

I haven't slept in two days and am glad that the ENDLESS AND VERY DIFFICULT ESSAY WRITING of this class is over. Yes, I learned a lot. Yes, I saw a lot of ugly human nature. But as any student who takes an unreasonably difficult course will attest, there is MUCH RELIEF when it's DONE. And it's finally, finally DONE.

EDIT to change a miswording that I promise I didn't catch originally... did I say that I haven't slept in two days?

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

This has nothing to do with needing a student board. After she changed the subject, offensive or not, it was very obvious that it was an education-oriented topic. Don't care? Don't read it. There's no need to start segregating just because you don't care.

Sueleen is right; it's great to be done with your exams, but the course has to have meant something for you. It's kind of distasteful, ESPECIALLY today as Rath has pointed out, to go waving your proverbial flag of celebration. I'd watch my words if I were you, and not call the essay writing "murderous," either. You're just running up dead ends all over the place today.

Gosh, you just can't seem to find the right words today, can you?

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

Right, Namo. Because this would be so much less offensive on a student message board. Yeah. Absolutely.

Why is it so hard for people to say "I'm sorry--I made a mistake"?

Much in life can be made better simply by saying that swiftly and clearly--and meaning it.

Luv, I saw the thread with its original title.

And Rath, my point is, I really do not care to read another single post about finals, homework, reports, how hard Alegbra 2 is, the excruciating nature of standardized tests. If there were a students board, topics such as this could be posted and others who are in the same boat can offer all of the support and *hugz* in the world.

And now it's changed, yet... you're still whining. You're just as bad as these "kids who needs hugz" when you keep b*tching about how stupid talk about school is, and how much you don't care; just as irritating to those you're maligning. Gee, God forbid we be educated and inquisitive, and care about learning. It would surely be better if we learned nothing at all, and then gave the world reason to complain at the overarching stupidity of the younger generations. It's hardly taking time off of your life to have them here.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

Oh Emcee. Isn't there a star in a schlock Broadway musical you should be out stalking right now? And screw you for writing that I am whining about it. I'm not whining about it.

This is what you wrote: "This has nothing to do with needing a student board. After she changed the subject, offensive or not, it was very obvious that it was an education-oriented topic. Don't care? Don't read it. There's no need to start segregating just because you don't care."

FACT: As I replied to you (and civilly I might add), I read the thread BEFORE the title was changed. There was absolutely no, ZERO way for me to know that this was another goddam "Oh my god I finished finals, writing is HARD" post. So I inform you of this and how your assertion that if I don't like student threads I shouldn't read them is impossible when a thread is titled something like "I Survived The Holocaust" as this one was when I read it. And you accuse me of "still whining about it" when I was just trying to clarify that your statment, while logical on the face of it, has to conveniently ignore the actual time frame of this thread in particular.

I am ALL FOR people being inquisitive and learning. But I find it very frustrating how threads I am interested in reading and maybe contributing to get buried on back pages because they are replaced by "Oh My God, SATs are SO AWFUL" and "I think I goofed up my driving lesson" and "Need help on a report" type threads which seem to multiply like yeast around here.

I don't think creating a STUDENTS BOARD would be "segregating." It would be a place where people could complain about class, tests, boredom and how much they love each other and folks could discuss these issues with people who are more appropriate than the general board public.

Oh and PS: Before you say it, please don't tell me to skip such threads because they often have names that give no clue to what the poster is going to be writing about. Not when they have titles like, "Can I just say..." "I just finished," and "Yay I did it."

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

I realize I made a mistake, I made my apology, in the first post, in a corrected post.

May I at least ask how often I make posts to deliberately offend people? Generally, I am fairly easy to get along with. I made a mistake and typed before I thought, I admit it, I apologized.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

Not really. I, just like those horrid little children who complain, have exams to study for. Nice try, though, dragging something highly untrue and irrlevant into this - it really has nothing to do with taste in theatre. Hasn't ever bothered you, so don't make it an issue.

I fully understand the time frame in which you read it. There's more than one very blatant screw-up in the titling of this thread, so my point is that it's really unnecessary to get into the same issue AGAIN over it. Just because you were civil doesn't make the underlying premise right.

In defense of the segregating issue, if there were a separate students' board, there wouldn't be any interaction between the students and those who ARE willing to help. I don't care to delve into personal relationships, battles, rivalries, opinions of posters or whatever else, but look at that AP American History thread. If you're all for learning, you'd understand the value there is in being able to use this forum for it, and you'd see why it's an issue of hindering what you're "all for."

I'm not having this argument again, especially not alone - go complain to Jose'.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

That's absolutely untrue. And yes, Costume, you apologized and that's fine. I still think it's an opportune moment to reiterate the idea of a students board.

And Emcee, it's absolutely untrue that a Students Board, or a Students Issues Board, would mean people don't interact across generations. Nobody is saying anybody has to stay one one board and not cross pollinate. It's just a matter of being able to decide which place a topic goes. If it's theater related, it goes on the main board. If it's not, it goes on Off-Topic. If it is specifically a student issue, it could go on the Students Board and it could be read and contributed to by people who give a crap about it.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

Right. Because people are always so willing to go out of their way. Everyone's that f*cking generous. I don't see you motioning for any other segments of the board, like one that's specifically for people to discuss shower products and soap, and one that's specifically to discuss what you ate last night - for lack of offending with "actual" categories. Might as well be a domino effect if you're going to do it once, is all I'm saying. Doing it to one group is unfair unless you're going to do it to them all. Obviously my perspective as a member of said group, and obviously also worth very little.

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

The way I always saw it, the OT Board is a place to share whatever the heck's on your mind and a part of your life... be it your classes, your pets, your reading selections, your love woes, your job complaints, whatever. If there were to be new boards made for every interest that someone didn't want to read about, the boards would be endless... "The Heterosexual Love Board." "The Movies Board." "The Food Love Board." "The Finals Board." "The Midterms Board." "The tests-that-aren't-finals-or-midterms-but-are-stressful Board..."

re: I Survived The Holocaust!

I still don't understand why you are reading these topics you don't care for Namo. Yes the title may be misleading, you open it and say "sh*t I don't like this" and get out and back to your business, that wastes what 20 seconds of your time?
Maybe a student board is a good idea, but there are hundreds of subcategories you could make, it just seems we could all exist happily in the same space.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
