I didn't think of the movie as giving insight about the Catholic Church. It was a pretty terrible message about the Irish people who let their daughters be discarded and locked away, essentially being slave labor. Well, the Church did exploit the girls (women) and the nuns were pretty screwed up people. Anyway, it was horribly sad.

The Church has always had little "secrets" going on...Where was the Pope when this **** was going on.....How many lives did this screw up for life!!

Surely it was only because of the influence the church had on the people? Not that the people didn't care what happened, they were just afraid.

While it is easy to quickly crticize the church, the truth is that most religions have similar instance of abusing people.

yes, but not as recently as the 1990s when the last Magdalene assylum closed.

The Church is TRULY EVIL

This has to be one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen. I rented it and it took me three days to watch it because I just couldn't take it all in one sitting. A good friend of mine's husband is from Ireland and said people just don't even talk about it over there, it's such a taboo topic.

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

It is a sad movie. Sad for the Irish people, sad for the Catholic church - HOWEVER as a good old irish catholic girl I think it's important to remind everyone that it isn't really the way things work anymore! And blaming the entire Catholic church is a bit extreme. I wish I could be offended by Rodney thinking we're evil ... but ... it's Rodney!

This movie absolutely devastated me. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after seeing it- it is so powerful. But, I'm glad I saw it; it opened my eyes to something truly horrible that went on. Plus, as a movie, it's extremely well done - beautifully acted and filmed.

"Years from now, when you talk about this - And you will - Be kind. "
