I finished with school yesterday after the Bio Regents. The Elementary and Middle Schools finish tomorrow.

School tends to run later in the tri-state area. It started about 20 years ago when we had a particularly severe winter. There was also a fuel shortage that year. It was decided to close the schools for a week in February to conserve fuel during the bitterest part of the winter. That is now what we call the mid-winter vacation or Presidents Week vacation. As a result, the shool year is extended.

In New York City the teachers don't get off until next Wednesday.
