Ok, I'm sure most of you don't care, but I thought I'd share my happiness. I found out this weekend that I'm going to play Tom Sawyer in the musical Tom Sawyer (obivously) this summer with the Arlington Children's Theater. This is really thrilling to me because I've always gotten secondary and chorus roles. I'm kind of nervous, but cannot wait until rehersals! Updated On: 6/14/04 at 11:41 AM

Is this Tom Sawyer the musical version that tanked on Broadway several seasons back?

Haha...BT11...I was thinking the same thing!

As for Tom Sawyer, I saw it once during it's brief visit on B'way, and I have to tell you, I never thought it awful. I even kind of liked it. (Bear in mind, I also liked Prymate...) But seriously, congratulations! I would think it would be a fun show to do.

I don't think the show was bad at all (the sets were great too.. just a side note). I think it was just a BAD choice of theatre, for one, that led to the demise.. it would have done better in a smaller space with better marketing.

I agree....the theater was all wrong. It could have worked in a smaller space and if marketed as the "next big family show".

I've had a chance to read over the script over a few times and it definately seems right for our theater group. Some of the songs seem a little corny, but over it looks like a good show. But eek! I have to sing this semi long song on stage alone, by myself. I hope my voice can carry it. And theres this one song called "Hey Tom Saywer" which I'm glad I don't have to sing because I now that I'd keeping singing it to the tune of "Hey Big Spender."

Congrats! But I really dislike the score for the show, especially "Hey Tom Sawyer!"

"To Hear You Say My Name" is the point of the whole show. It's gorgeous! Updated On: 6/15/04 at 08:08 PM
