I am getting a new pda and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Treo 650 and what opinions there might be?
I have it Dame....it takes some time to get use to at first, but I love it. Holds everything you need so you don't need to carry around a plam pilot too.

My dad has one. At least I think it is the 650. He is in love wiht that treo. It does everything for him. Personally, I love it too. They are good phones.
Thanks guys. They have a newer model wich is wi-fi. But no one seems to know if it is compatible with macs. but my friend says he likes the key board of the 650 better. And the price is right. I am going to go ahead and get it.
I love my 650--it is my cell phone, my Palm Pilot, a camera, an MP3 player, and I can even go to BWW mobile!--but it is bulky and takes some getting used. Everyone seems to go though different learning curves and odd glitches.
What are some of the common odd glitches? And does the bluetooth work well? My other option is the new "Q". But the keys are small and it is not mac compatible.

I had the 650 and just upgraded yesterday to the 700 (the wi-fi one). Both are excellent. My father also upgraded and he experienced some problems with the 650. I believe it would turn off for no reason from time to time. This happened to me once or twice, but it wasn't anything significant. The design changes in the 700 are not much different from the 650. I have them side by side now b/c I haven't sent the 650 back. As far as usability goes, I find the 700 a little more user friendly. Some of the keys are a little bigger, but not much. If a faster internet connection is important to you, then go for the 700 (that's why I upgraded). However, the 650 is a wonderful little device.
Thanks bmeonbway2. The fast internet connection is not a priority with me so I think I will stick with the 650. I am getting a really good deal thru our office Verizon program.
Love my 650.. wouldn't upgrade now if you paid me because I never buy 2st generation of new products - always wait 6 months or so for them to get the patches, glitches taken care of. I don't like being a beta tester..
My treo has replaced me walking around with my ipod as well. I have a 1 gig card in that sucker and have about 250 songs, a couple of videos I converted from tivo, etc..
Craig,
Is itunes compaible with the the treo?

I had to convert my songs from the iTunes format to Windows Media Player. I believe that is standard on the 650. Definitely get the 1 gig SD card and the stero headphones adapter (inexpensive) so it doubles as a media player.

I'm sure you will love it. There's a lot of software (some of it is freeware or at least free for a trial period) available. Butler and Directory Assist are my two favorites. When you get it, let me know if you need websites, etc.
Enjoy!
Adapter is 5.99 - and you can get it at radio shack or circuit city...
the built in real player on the treo will play mp3s - so if your music is AAC or any other format - you might have to re-rip the music.
The treo isn't itunes compatible. There's a great program ( I don't have it) called pocketunes which plays various formats and also can stream content from the internet (i.e. you could listen to broadwayworld.com radio) I think that runs about 35 or 40 bucks.
Excellent. Thank you all so much. As soon as I get it and play with it a little I am sure will have lots of questions. THANK YOU!
highly recommend www.treocentral.com as a resource
but keep in mind - those are treo "geeks" - as in - power users. They are to treos as many are to this site.. so they will nit pick and criticize each and every function down to minutia - but it's also a great place to ask questions about features, errors or problems you might be having, software suggestions, etc.
no.. I bought (for 19.95) MMplayer - which plays mpgs and .avi's
and I have video editing software (although they make easier programs out there now) which can export video to the right size/compression for the treo
Dame, the Washington Post Tech section just did a story on the 650 vs 700 - they ended up supporting the 650. I have a 600 that is old and I'm going to upgrade to the 650 one of these days. For sync-ing with the mac, I'd recommend the software at http://www.markspace.com/
I will look into it. But I thought it would automatically sync with the mac?
The calendar and contacts will sync, as I understand it, but you can read in the article about the lack of a fully sync.

I am on information overload.. but I am the kind of person that likes to read obsessively about something I am about to buy. Thank you so much!
The Post article is good at walking you through the features. Let me know what decide to do!
Oh I already ordered it and it should be here in a few days. I also went ahead and ordered a new bluetooth ear peice as my current one fell into the swimming pool.
I'll see if I can hold out for the new "apple-berry" that is rumored to be in the works. Apple + Blackberry = love.
