Tales of the City's next chapter ....updates?

This is really off the topic: does anyone have an update (other than ususal stuff that circulates) on the next Tales of the City installment, "Babycakes"? Will it be on cable and when will it be aired? I've heard rumors about December of this year for filming.
Thanks.

re: Babycakes...movie?

Is that the one about the dwarf or am I confusing it with another Maupin story?

Dollypop, you're thinking of Maybe the Moon. Babycakes is the fourth "Barbary Lane" book.

I heard rumors a few years ago of it being turned into a film, Mirth, but as far as I know it's not happening any time soon. At this rate, most of the cast is getting too old for their roles.

Olympia is the only Anna Madrigal.

The mountain or the woman? re: Babycakes...movie?

I agree, and I agree that there is no other Mary Ann Singleton but Laura Linney, but I'm not sure she can pull off late 20s/Early 30s at this point, as she'd be in Babycakes.

Oh...I think Linney could still do it. As for Mrs. Madrigal, the only other woman I ever could have imagined playing the role was Lois Smith. But I adore Dukakis in this series.

As much as I love BABYCAKES and SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, I wouldn't be upset if they just skipped right to filming SURE OF YOU. That book broke my heart.

Mine too. I did find that the books declined in quality after Further Tales, but it's still one hell of a series.

I remember BABYCAKES, as a television film starring Ricki Lake and Craig Sheffer.

As do I, but that was based on a German movie, not the Maupin book.

That's what I thought this thread was going to be about.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I'm attached to the original
cast too. Good point about it being a little late for their ages to be believable...I didn't remember the time lapses.... Kringas, you're right-- their oldest would probably be early 30's.

I also thought this was about that embarrassing fairy tale of a TV movie.
