re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#1
Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:28pmI usually keep my mouth shut until they come out and tell me what party they support. Politics and work often don't mix well.
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#2
Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:29pmMy coworkers share my politics and we work in a very politicaly oriented industry, so around here all is well.

My co-workers are generally more conservative than I. They tolerate me and my happy dances.
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#4
Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:32pmThat would mean I had to talk to my co-workers, and that's something I just can't do.
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#6
Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:35pmI work in a very conservative office. Pretty much only the two women in my dept. are the only other non-republicans here. But we do end up having some very lively discussions with others in the office.

I was at meeting at 11:00 PST and stated that I could not wait to get back to my office to read the indictments.
A few just rolled their eyes. A couple agree.

SG, I love the "once you get older you'll see the light" arguement. My family has been giving me that one since I tried to campaign for Mondale in elementary school. Then they said the same as I did it for Dean and Kerry last year.
If I have children they will be raised by a proud liberal, it is that simple.

Posted: 10/28/05 at 3:44pmi'm with bobby. i didn't even know that talking to my co-workers, or rather being spoken to BY my co-workers, was an option.

SP - how are you feeling today? Better?
I hope so.

penguin, have you been sick, my sweet? I hope you're better now!
And, Elphaba, you are SO right. Not only is everyone Republican, but more than half are Catholic. Ew. But, you know, this is just a chance for me to hear other people's POVs and, when I disagree, either shut the hell up or form a cognizant intelligent reply. But mostly I'm just going to stay away from this stuff anymore.

In some corners of my family the 3 taboo topics are Religon, Politics, and anything else!
My dad was so right wing, he made Archie Bunker look like Ted Kennedy! No wonder I am a knee jerk liberal.

Well, I just found out I work in a fairly conservative office. No good. A man that I really like otherwise told me that once I have kids, I'll change my views.
You mean when you're older and start making illogical decisions based on your insecurity towards change?

That is when, exactly.
Yes, I have been sick all week. I even missed out on all the BWW fun and meltdowns. I am much better now!
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#17
Posted: 10/28/05 at 4:12pmExactly, my Wizard friend! Are you a closet conservative?
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#18
Posted: 10/28/05 at 4:13pmAw, shoot, did I miss some more meltdowns? Damnit! I wish I could get some advance notice on these things. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Exactly, my Wizard friend! Are you a closet conservative?
Heellllllllllll, NO. My brand of liberalism is off the charts in the American political climate! "Even the most right-wing Canadian is considered liberal in the United States." -- Thom Yorke of Radiohead.

Posted: 10/28/05 at 4:36pmThat's a great quote. By the by, I love Radiohead.
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#21
Posted: 10/28/05 at 6:20pmRight, of course. Once you have children you'll magically become conservative. Which is why my dad has a picture of Bush with a mustache drawn on it in a fit of pique on his desk.

Discussing politics with friends or co workers will always lose you friends
Where I work ( small company) the people there are not politically motivated. Even if they were, politics no longers interests me so it is a moot point. i try & avoid it like the plague
Thank goodness the mayors race (NYC) will be over in a few weeks so I will no longer have to listen to what a great guy he is. Interested ( not )
re: Talking Politics with Co-workers#23
Posted: 10/28/05 at 8:19pmNot interested in politics and yet you make a point to convey to us in almost every political thread your lack of interest in politics. Hmmmmmm.

I work in a pretty liberal to moderate office. Even are conservatives are still fairly moderate. After all, it's Los Angeles.
We frequently discuss politics, sex, and sex with politicians.
