I have a cat that can open doors. Basically ones that don't latch or have handles you turn. I have no idea how she does it. She gets up in the linen closet at night to sleep. And when my sister owned her, she was taught by someone how to open kitchen cabinets. Or at least how to attempt to open them. My sister said she would sit in there at night and rattle the doors around trying to open them.

My cats are name Lovey and Mr. Howl. Mr. Howl loves the plastic, while Lovey knows how to open the cabinet doors under the sink.

I also used compressed air! And when I don't have the can handy, I find I can scare them a bit by making the sounds of the air by hissing loudly.

Cats chew plastic bags for a bazillion reasons- Foremost, it feels like eating grass. Cats have eaten grass for centuries- mostly to make themselves throw up. Wild cats eat all parts of their prey and throw up the indigestible parts- hair, bones, hooves. Modern cats still feel the need to upchuck once in a while- even though their diets are now fully digestible.

My vet told me a while ago that most modern bags (like supermarket bags- the crinkly kind) are made with a corn product to be biodegradable. Dry cat food is also made with corn- so your cat may just like the taste (My old cat sure did. She'd eat up big chunks of bag then throw it up!). In any case, the bags break down in their digestive system and don't harm them. As my vet said, even when bags were almost pure petroleum products he never had a cat die of eating one.

My #2 cat just had kittens. My "mother-in-law" wants the black one, so we told her to name it. She wanted to call him "Cole" but we've persuaded her to name him "Coalhouse" and call him Coal for short!
