We were notified yesterday that Robert will be listed next year in the Who's Who among American teachers, which is a lovely and much-deserved recognition for the end of his career. I'm very happy and proud, and get to play the loving 'wife' through all these functions next year (if only I didn't look ridiculous in chiffon and pearls!)
I know there are a couple of posters in the educational field, and since this is the end of many other's school year, I'd like to just say 'Thank You' to all those who dedicate themselves to teaching. It is a difficult job, but one that is probably the most important if there's any hope for our continuation.
I am so happy for Robert! Bless you both! Love, Kel- a soon to be teacher

My mother was a teacher. I know the job has gotten harder and harder over the years. I have huge admiration for today's teachers. Their job is so difficult.
" ...the happiness in the tune convinces me that I'm not afraid."
Glebb - I'm not sure the teaching itself has gotten harder, but the parameters have certainly changed. The biggest difference is in the participation - or lack thereof - on the part of the parents. It's frightening to what degree some parents expect the schools to not only teach, but to actually raise their child.
Thanks DG I'll do my best. I know what you mean though about the parents wanting the school to raise their children. It is sickening. But watch out if you do something the parent doesn't like, then they are super mom and they will jump down your throat in a heart beat!

Yes...teachers all need to hear "Thank You" from all of us..without them we wouldn't be typing, reading, or writing any of these posts....and please no Liam jokes here people.

DG I also have to tell you how much I adore your icon. It is the cutest thing ever.

Boobs - he just keeps showing me over and over what a 'good boy' he really is - and how lucky I am!
Kel - I am a penguin fanatic - Emperors, in particular. I've always wanted to do an Antartic cruise to see them, but I'm afraid I would leap off the ship in excitement, and that would be the end of that! I don't have baby pictures of me, but this is MUCH cuter anyway
I love baby penguins and baby seals...so cute and fluffy. The funniest thing I think I ever saw was on a school field trip to an aquarium. They had emperor penguins and apparently large groups of school children inspire the penguins to mate. So this poor tour guide was explaining all these facts about penguins and behind him they were going at it. We all were of course dying laughing, as wew our teachers. The guy didn't even turn around to look he just kept going as though we weren't laughing at all. It was priceless

Boobs - much to Wall Street's benefit! I can't help but feel a little sorry, though, for the kids who missed out on having you as a teacher - I bet you were phenomenal.
Kel - Usually it's monkeys - I think I'd like the penguins better!
Boobs I think you would have made an excellent teacher.

DG - Congrats to both of you. A profession like ours is very draining and it takes a loving partner to keep one on an even keel. Unfortunately, both my husband and I are educators, so we're both drained and at the end of our respective ropes by the end of May. Not a sane person left in this household!
Sticky thing about that parent involvement: many want the schools to raise their children, but heaven forbid if there is something in the curriculum that doesn't jib with their own perspective on life. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Sorry, a liitle end of the school year rant.
Bluemoon- what school disctrict do you teach in up in the metro area?

Kel - We're in Montgomery County, but we both taech at (different) private schhols in the area. Our daughter went to my school, but did the theater program at my husband's school because she didn't want her mother as a director. Sheesh! Kids these days!
My congrats to Robert and you, too, DGrant, for being supportive and understanding of someone in the teaching field. I've been a teacher for 33 year (one more year until retirement) and it's been a most rewarding job, though it's become increasing difficult with today's children. Unfortunately, too, my boyfriend and a few non-teaching friends, think I have a cushy job with three months off and a work day from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They just don't comprehend how much more time is needed to be prepared to teach each day. I don't know what it's like to not have a few hours of work to do each evening. Despite their opinion, I love my job and my kids. Here's to many more years of teaching enjoyment for Robert!
