re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

It's HER tombstone, and she has no say in what he has chosen to do - had she the knowledge of what happened, we don't know how she would have felt about her family. I'm sorry, but a tombstone/burial is not a forum for someone else's revenge. This makes him as low as they are in my opinion.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

very well said Rath.
Marc, her PARENTS acted horribly, but we don't know how her aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family acted. It's common decency to inform the family you are burrying the remains of a family member. I was very torn on this whole issue, but any respect I ever had for him just disapeared. NO ONE deserves what he did to them by doing that. And I'm sure if you were in their possition, you would feel differently.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

Her parents lost all rights to a say in her burial when they began playing this out in the press and defaming Michael at every turn. I have absolutely no sympathy for her parents or siblings and if there were uncles, aunts, cousins who are now unable to participate in her burial, they have no one to blame but her reprehensible parents who deserve not one ounce of courtesy from Michael.

I think her tombstone was beautifully worded and is a testament to her life, death and wishes.

As for what Terri would've wanted, not many people leave detailed information regarding what their own tombstone should say. That is normally left to the next of kin, in this case, her husband.

Abba--had Michael informed the parents of the funeral, their past behavior indicates that they would have turned it into a circus.

Rath--I think the tombstone is a beautifully understated expression of love and grief.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

I think the tombstone is beautiful. He suffered just as much as her family did. Good for him.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

Excellent point, PJ. In fact, Michael didn't bar them from the hospital while he was there until they began insinuating themselves into every little thing. Their actions at the end of their daughter's life proved their intentions, especially towards Michael, and he frankly owes them nothing.
That tombstone is gorgeous and I could only hope to have a partner/husband who would fight my parents - AND WIN! - and leave such a tribute to me on my tombstone.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

Yes, I can't imagine how much Michael Schiavo must have suffered. It must have been so hard on him that he had to kill his wife so he could marry the woman he's been having an affair with for years.

What a loving husband...

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

I don't usually weigh in on threads like this, but I want to say that I agree with bwaysinger (and others). It all depends on how one interprets the words on the tombstone. I believe it's possible for someone's spirit to have left their body and gone back to God, while their body is kept 'alive' here. To me, that's what the tombstone is saying. Her spirit (the real her) probably did leave this earth all those years ago; when her body was finally allowed to rest, too, that was when she was finally at peace. I think the marker says it all and very well.

The parents make me sick
The politicians make me sick, particularly Jeb Bush
The religious right makes me sick
And now trpguyy makes me sick.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

Yes, Trpguyy, Michael was definitely just waiting to kill her so he could marry this woman.
I'm sure that, when the doctors informed her she was finally about to pass, his action of crawling into the hospice bed with her and holding her, crying while she left this earth, was simply for a little soundbyte on the evening news.
Yep. No love there.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

I wouldn't be surprised. He knew the whole world was watching him.

And I'm curious as to what "promise he kept" because it sure wasn't his wedding vows. I believe the phrase is "til death do us part," not "til mental disablilty do us part."

Bway, don't bother wasting your time responding to that jackass. It will do no good.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

"I kept my promise" doesn't belong on her tombstone. It should be a quote about her, not him. It was a poor decision on his part.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

"He knew the whole world was watching him."

Uh, TRP, were you WATCHING the media during this circus? How often did Michael parade his intentions around?
I think you're confusing the 15-minute media-crazed parents in this case.
He did indeed keep his promise to her. He watched after her, he cared for her, and he fought his parents to let her go.

Read the medical autopsy, my man, she was brain-dead. It was half of its normal size and the rest was liquefied. That's a far cry from mental disability.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

But, I guess "I kept my promise" is better than "I told you so".

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

TRP seems to be skipping past the fact that the 'other woman' didn't come into the picture until years later - and that Michael was (at that point) being encouraged by TERRI'S PARENTS to get on with his life.

re: Terri Schiavo's Tombstone

"I told you so," although an appropriate message to his in-laws, "Doctor" Bill Frist and Governor Jeb Bush, is inappropriate for an epitaph.

If you choose to believe that Michael was a loving husband as many of us do, "I kept my promise" is a lovely inscription, in the long tradition of epitaphs that are messages to the departed, as opposed to the more common style of a message from the departed, which would have been less appropriate here.

Those of you who are judging his actions should remember what Jesus said about casting first stones.
