tough to just wing a person at that distance with a 12 gauge. depending on what kinda loads he was shooting, a hit to any appendage would most likely have been lethal as the chances are that a major artery would have been severed.
life isn't like in the movies. if you're to the point that you're going to shoot someone, you don't shoot for their legs or try to wound them. doing that will generally end up with the person you were trying to shoot holding your weapon and looking down at your corpse. even trained cops miss most of their shots. a twitch, a breath, a spasm - and if you're to the point where you are preparing to shoot another human being, you're breathing heavy and your heart is racing - and your shot ends up anywhere from a foot to a mile from where you were aiming. it's not that easy to hit a moving target even if they're close to you.
nope, in this situation, if you're gonna shoot you aim for center mass and shoot til they stop moving.
