I'm fairly new to text messaging, and I'm thumbing through the instruction manual to my cell phone, to learn what the little icons on the messages mean. There's one that signifies "sent," and the description says that "messages in the short message center have been transmitted." There's a different icon to signifiy that a message has been delivered. What does the former mean, exactly? I have no idea what this means by "short message center" is; can someone tell me?
Muchas gracias.
Sorry EM..I'm learning too..I just know how to answer when someone sends one...PM Undi...she's great at it.
I am a text message FIEND, and my phone bill is OBSCENELY expensive every month because of it.
And I don't even know what that means.
What kind of phone do you have? Maybe I had it, or have it - and could look at mine.
LG, Verizon.
Hm...no, I'm sorry.
I had verizon for years, but only ever had Nokia, Samsung, or Morotola.
I just switched to Cingular and got their Razr, and am loving it. I previously had Verizon's Razr, and it's horrendous.
Just felt like sharing.
I'll join in on the threadjacking goodness since I have no idea how to solve emcee's problem. Sorry, Em.
I got a new phone last night as well.
I got the Samsung A900 from Sprint which has been dubbed "The Blade."
It's RAZR-like, but more sturdy and in my personal opinion it's "less flash, more sleek" look is more appealing.

I learned today that if you tell someone to text you with the final details of the plans for tonight, it then causes all kinds of chaos if you leave your phone at home.
That doesn't answer your questions, but trust me - it will help you in the future.
Edited to drool over Pat's phone.
munk, what is wrong with the Verizon Razr? i was thinking of getting one to replace my current phone.
I think "sent" just means that it went out. Delivered means that it went through, and the perosn got it.

I have a Verizon RAZR and granted I've only had it for about two weeks I haven't had any problems with it... yet.
Are you just saying it has less features?

If you google "short message center", this is the first thing that comes up:
Short message service is a mechanism of delivery of short messages over the mobile networks. It is a store and forward way of transmitting messages to and from mobiles. The message (text only) from the sending mobile is stored in a central short message center (SMS) which then forwards it to the destination mobile. This means that in the case that the recipient is not available, the short message is stored and can be sent later. Each short message can be no longer than 160 characters. These characters can be text (alphanumeric) or binary Non-Text Short messages. An interesting feature of SMS is return receipts. This means that the sender, if wishes, can get a small message notifying if the short message was delivered to the intended recipient.
I think that explains it well.
The Verizon Razr has less features, is more complicated, harder to get used to, and just plain ugly.
