Okay. I'm confused. Unless you are leaving the planet on a certain date and can no longer post, why the countdown?
a) don't let the turkeys get you down. Stay and excercise your right to speak up
b) if you don't wish to stay because you are that upset with all of us, why are you not leaving right away? Please note that I am not trying to DRIVE YOU OFF. I don't want anyone to give up and leave. Just curious as to why you've chosen to do the countdown thing.

He's not staying and he'll have no access to the internet. At least, that's the impression I get from speaking to him.
When you leave on a Mormon mission, you're giving yourself up for service to your 'church' and community.
I'm not Mormon, I'm Roman Catholic, so I'm really not certain on the specific details of it. All I know is he's leaving for 2 years.

oh wow. Well good luck bobo. I know i don't post here often, but i did enjoy reading your posts. If your countdown isn't over yet and if your reading this, good luck!

Well his signature says he'll be back Sept. 6. You mean of 2006?
Sweet!
So does this mean Bobo that you won't be running the show anymore? Well, Good Luck.

I would assume it means 2006

If you had read the first page before you posted, you two who know who you are, you would have seen that he was going off on a Mormon mission.

Good luck on your mission, Elder Bobo! :o)
The next two years will teach you so much about yourself, other people, and the things you want to have in your life.
I'm a returned missionary myself (female) and my time in Northern California blessed me in more ways than I can adequately express.
You're going to meet lots of great people of all shapes, sizes, and opinions--and have a chance to truly serve them. I wish you the best and remember to always CTR!

CJR is right. Missionaries have limited internet excess. Usually just to e-mail their families if they are serving outside the US.
They are quite busy and need to stay focused on the task at hand. Those who choose to serve missions have a unique opportunity for personal growth. I've seen guys go out as playful puppies and come back as more grounded, focused young men. They haven't lost their exhuberance but they've learned to channel their energies and see their part in the world--instead of just thinking of themselves. (Not perfect people, mind you, but, often, more "centered.")
And, I speak from experience here, if you see a set of "Elders" or "Sisters" (that is the title that the girls have) in your neighborhood and its a hot day--and you feel so inclined-- please offer them a drink of cold water. You don't know how grateful we were for the kind souls who showed us that bit of charity. Postal carriers and their wives were especially sweet to us.
(Just my two cents!)

I worked for several years with a company who had a large staff in Salt Lake City, and many of the staff were members of LDS. I learned some about their religion and culture over the course of my time with that company. While it's not a lifestyle that would work for me I give them, and other missionaries of any religion, a tremendous amount of credit and respect. They are doing something that they believe is right for them to do, and they are able to carry forth. I could not make they choices they make. For that I say they are better men, and ladies, than I, Gunga Din.
So bobo, PEACE BE WITH YOU.
Buena suerte... y hasta pronto...

bobo - our lovely Beacon1 went a LONG way toward putting into context what you are undertaking. As we've discussed, I personally have reservations about your readiness for this task - but as she so eloquently explained, that could very well be the reason for it. Safe journeys - and may you learn more and come to understandings that for the moment seem to cause you difficulty and pain.
You know what? in two months i will be able to interpret that.
Meanwhile, that means:
Good luck... and see you soon....
The count down is at 57 hours. Does anybody here live in New Mexico?

You started this thread TWO DAYS ago and there are still TWO MORE DAYS before you leave? Why, this reminds me of a joke told by the fabulous Bette Bourne at the top of a fantastic show by his troupe, Bloolips. It's incredibly appropriate to this situation.
Bette: Do you know the difference between a Real Man and a Queen?
Precious Pearl: No.

Bobo,
Most missions have websites. Have you google the New Mexico Alburquerque Mission? Or LDS Missions. You can get great tips and many have a messageboard to ask questions about the area, etc. My friend's oldest son went to that same mission a few years ago and absolutely loved it: The people, the language, and the culture.

Incredibly appropriate Namo, you are a certified genious.
What theater person do you know that doesn't like to cause a commotion and be the center of attention for a lil bit? Real men also dont follow broadway.
Beacon, I meant that I was wondering if im going to find any sympathetic souls to my area of interest down there. While other missionarys will be able to talk at length about hunting or sports, I'm going to be sadly out of place. I don't even know the rules of football.
Yeah, but don't forget you're straight while you're on Mission Impossible. Or is it Mission Accomplished?
Are you gone yet?
"Thank you all for your well wishing. Its nice to know you are tolerated."
as a good friend once said, I refuse to be tolerated. (which was a reference to the fact that we are gay human beings seeking acceptance)

I guess I missed the explanation of why this person was leaving the boards on the initial post. Didn't seem clear why they were going.
If they are going on a mission of peace and good will, more power to them. We will be staying here in NYC witnessing the exact opposite as the RNC grinds through the week.
