just wanted to say I was so impressed with his appearance this past week on Bill Maher's show. He stood his ground, and came out the victor in every single debate on the show.
I really admire him.

Fortunately, JohnBoy, Barney's in the House.
I heard him speak at a journalism convention a few years ago. I don't know if "nice guy" is the right word, but he's certainly very candid and interesting. And, despite what you might think, he seems to be popular among his conservative cohorts (even Tom DeLay asked him for a hug after the shooting outside of his office, if I recall correctly).

I loved his fervor, and his sense of the grave stakes in Iraq. He was in a very entertainment-centured venue, but consistently debated with a serious demeanor, command of facts and a deep well of outrage. He wasn't there to swap jokes with that grinning vacuum from the Wall Street Journal board, who seemed only to want to prove to Bill that he's a fun guy. Barney even semi-silence Jason at one point when Jason's glibness didn't fit the moment.
We lost 92 soldiers in October alone. Sometimes, it's refreshing to see people function with an accute awareness of the life and death issues. Compare Barney with Bush today, swaggering and saying "I'm havin' a good time during this season..." A GOOD TIME, as people perish staying his deadly course.
