"Doesn't "catchphrase" mean a phrase that's made it into the vernacular?"
But several on that list haven't made it into the vernacular. Who goes around saying "Gee Mrs. Cleaver" or "Oh my nose".

And since they are going for phrases that entered the vernacular, in the '80s people were going around saying
"When E.F. Hutton speaks, everybody listens"

"- "That's hot" (Paris Hilton, "The Simple Life")"
That makes me pretty sad.

"Suit up!" (Barney Stinson, "How I Met Your Mother")
Are you kidding me? The show is 10 seconds old. I never hear anyone saying this or even talking about the show at all.

First - and I'm a complete nerd for this, BUT:
Beam me up, Scotty was never uttered in Star Trek, so rightfully shouldn't be on the list.
I don't get how the political or historical quotes make this list. How are those catchphrases?
And why is: "Ay carumba" or "Eat my shorts" not on there?
And though I love Boston Legal - a lot - "Denny Crane" - really?
There are any number of Seinfeld quotes that should be on there....
I'd also like to put in my personal bid for a "Don't be ridiculous" from Perfect Strangers.

"Kiss My Grits" is from "Alice."
Pure. Genius.

RobbO!
Threadjack-
I've missed you, the only reason I'm on here right now is because I over slept and missed class. My schedule has been hell for the past two months. I have been going through BWW withdrawls...

Also no "What you talkin' about, Willis?" or "Skipper!!"
If The O.C. and How I Met Your Mother made the Top 100 list, then they are smoking crack.

Amen, jasonf! I remember tons of people actually going around, saying "Don't be reedikohlus," but I've never heard one person utter, "Suit up" or "Denny Crane."
What about, "Sit on it, Potsie!" (Happy Days)
"Why I oughtta..." (The Honeymooners)
"He's dead, Jim." (Star Trek)
"Where's the beef?" (ubiquitous Wendy's commercial)
"Well, Golly!" - pronounced, "Well, Gaa-aa-aa-ly!" (Andy Griffith Show)

I think there should be a different list for SNL too.
Maybe do a Top 10 of each decade.

Cute list, fun to read. But I agree they've left off some major ones.
If they ahve "How I Met Your Mother" then they should have had "Seriously." from Grey's Anatomy.
I've never heard the one from How I Met Your Mother, but I agree. Those kind of quotes haven't had time to make it into people's vernacular. Though I have been using "seriously" since waaaay before Grey's Anatomy every started using it.

Love How I Met Your Mother, but ... yeah, 'Suit up' shouldn't be on that list. Yes, Barney says it a lot, but I think 'LEGENDARY.' is used much more by Barney than 'Suit up'.
I agree that 'Just Jack!' should've made the list. And I don't even remember that quote from the OC, nor does anyone I know walk around going, 'Welcome to the OC...'. Catchphrases are phrases everyone knows and can slip into everyday speech.
The fact that nothing from 'I Love Lucy' made the list is shameful. Shameful!
The fact that someone wrote in and said they love 'Not the mama!' from Dinosaurs just made my day.

not the mama! LOVE IT! I also loved from Dinosaurs "Uh oh, looks like we're going to need another Timmy!"

"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Heeere's Johnny!" -- the introduction for U.S. talk-show host Johnny Carson for 30 years -- has been ranked the most memorable TV catchphrase in a Top 100 list covering 60 years of American television shows, cartoons, commercials and quotes from news programs.
Neil Armstrong's famous "One small step for man ... " comment when stepping on the moon on July 20, 1969, took second place in the list compiled by TV Land, while millionaire businessman-turned-TV star Donald Trump came in third with his curt "You're fired!" ousting of contestants from the TV show "The Apprentice.""
"Heeere's Johnny!" is top U.S. TV catchphrase

Posted: 12/6/06 at 5:11pmHow is "What you talkin' about, Willis?" not on there?? I would pretty much say that it's the biggest TV catchphrase of all-time.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015
