The last thread devolved into something not very pleasant.

Back to the movie...I enjoyed for the reasons that others are complaining. I enjoyed spending time with these characters in the same setting. I guess it was comforting in a way, but I didn't want to see them go to Goa or on some vacation together. I enjoyed "continuing" their story. I know they made Dev Patel's character somewhat grating, but, for me, his charm still showed through. He had some of the funniest lines. Maggie Smith was the anchor in this. I would have liked to see more to Judy Dench's storyline, but that's a minor quibble.

Was this earth shaking cinema? No. However, I very much enjoyed it. It is basically a light, fluffy merengue of a film. For me it worked, and I'll probably see it again. I just enjoy the whole fantasy of the set-up.

but because you have nothing to contribute to this thread, back to the movie.

I saw this movie with my grandmother and she absolutely adored it. Was it just me or were there some sound mixing issues? I had trouble hearing some of the lines in the theatre, despite the fact that I could hear the background noise very well.

Also, didn't notice any sound problems. There was a lot of underscoring thoughout dialogue scenes though. A lot of louder scenes intercut with quieter dialog scenes where the music would continue softer under the dialogue.

Maggie Smith and the movie are first rate. I loved it. I saw Dev this past week and he is gorgeous in person.

My wife and I saw it today. She wanted to see it so I tagged along.

Not the best nor the worst. Entertaining fluff and nothing more.

I enjoyed the first movie but there was no reason for this one. The great cast is largely wasted on a story that goes nowhere fast and takes its sweet time getting there. There's very little dramatic action. God love Dev Patel, who throws enough energy at the screen to support a nuclear power plant.
