Kiss Me Kate was made not only in 3D but with three track stereophonic sound. The stereo tracks survive and will be used for the Blu-ray. Calamity Jane is known to been recorded in three or four track stereo but only a handful, if any, stereo prints were ever made. The stereo master tracks were lost years ago so only the mono soundtrack exists. Band Wagon and Rain were recorded in mono and there were never any stereo tracks.
Jane, Band Wagon and Rain were shot at the old pre-widescreen aspect ratio of 1.33:1 and will be presented that way. Kate, while shot on 1.33:1 film and often shown that way today, was framed to be projected cropped to the moderate widescreen ratio of 1.75:1. It was shown that way in theaters in its original release and that's how it will be presented on the Blu-ray.
So Kate will be 3D, widescreen, with stereophonic sound. Warner's has spent several years working on original film elements to prepare this Blu-ray. I can't wait!
