I was going to buy a book for a Christmas present and I wondered which books you folks thought were the best ones of the year. Fiction or Non. I was thinking of getting The Girl On The Train.

The National Book Awards were just announced yesterday. Nonfiction goes to Ta-Nehisi Coates's Between the World and Me and fiction is Adam Johnson's Fortune Smiles.

City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg is one of the buzzier books this fall.

Although the book was originally published in 2011 it resurfaced due to the release of the movie. Between the book (read it first) and then the movie...by far I thought the book was a page turner and exciting!

" I really enjoyed The Girl on The Train. It was a lot of fun, and some of the characters are such messes.

Lots of hype. Following that for 2 years. Movie rights were bought. One person said it was just Ok.

I'm currently REALLY enjoying Stephen King's Finder's Keepers - the sequel to Mr. Mercedes. My wife just read Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmann - she reads 100+ books a year and said this was her favorite so far. It's science fiction, so if you're not into genre stuff, just be aware of that.
