I love Elton John's music, but if he's not singing, I couldn't care less about what he says. He charged America with racism when Jennifer Hudson was voted off American Idol, right? That was the year Fantasia won.

You are speaking for yourself, right? It's always a bit confusing when someone uses the royal "we" when they simply mean I.

In reference to American Idol, he was talking about the fact that the bottom two that week were the only two black finalists left and considered the most talented.
Elton should really just stick to music.

Indeed, it should be a welcome change from the barstool.

Elton is not the only one saying this. As much as I dislike Senator Clinton, NPR did an interview with a prominent female senator and the issue of how we perceive female candidates and how it is definitely a product of misogyny. It may not be the #1 reason, but you can't deny it's part of the issue.
Men who get angry are in control, women who get angry are out of control. It's a reduction of the issue, but in many cases it's the way we perceive women without even realizing it.

That's not true. The media have already focused on John McCain's temper and if he has the ability to remain in control.

I meant in general. The media is trying to be very careful with this issue, I think.

Here are some Elton John lyrics:
So merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
May God's love be with you
We all sing together in one breath
Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
We all celebrate today
'Cause it's one day closer to your death
So merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
May God's love be with you
We all sing together in one breath
Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher
We all celebrate today
'Cause it's one day closer to your death

LOL. Come on, though. Even I'm not comparing Senator Clinton to Maggie Thatcher, that woman had a lump of coal where her heart should be, to paraphrase Mrs. Eulalie Mckechnie Shinn.
I shall now count to 25 in the Indian dialect, Heen, Feen, Feathertuck, etc... whatever it is. God, I love that show.

I would have thought this community above most communities would be smarter than the "shut up and sing" mentality of the world.

I'm speaking for everyone who is not voting for Hillary Clinton.
Yes, Goth, I'm sad to say you do.
What saddens and scares me most about the 2008 Democratic Primary season is that GothamPC now speaks for a new and sizable Hillary-hating portion of the American Left.
I hate that my beloved DailyKos, HuffingtonPost, TalkingPointsMemo and Keith Olbermann--not to mention the Hillary-haters among my friends--now think and speak in goosestep with Ann Coulter.
It makes me sad.

I really don't have a shut up and sing mentality at all. I actually love it when my favorite performers speak out about politics and social issues. There's just something about Elton, though. It's hard to take a dude in a duck costume and a tiara seriously. I mean, it can be done, just not by that many.

If THAT makes you sad, PJ, you should put blame where it's due--at the feet of Lady C.
Had she conducted herself with the grace, intelligence and dignity she used to posess, Obama would have been gone long ago.
People just don't like her--WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO GRASP?

Not to mention that Elton has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth and later retract his statements.
Oh, and I like Hillary and I love the Dixie Chicks. That is all.

I have to agree with lildogs. She did that to herself, from the War thing to her saying that she WOULD take money from special interests to her lying about being UNDER FIRE and putting her daughter in the middle of her outright lie, she did it to herself.
I used to like her, but now I know she's no different than any other conniving politician. It's time to give the power to someone else.

I'm not ready to make nice.
I'm not ready to back down.
I'm still mad as hell and I don't have time
to go round and round and round.

I completely understand being angry at her for those things, but it's not like Obama hasn't lied/embellished either. It's not like he's flawless either.
But, that's the point---no one's perfect. So, I hope that whoever ends up the nominee, we all vote for them--even if you have to hold your nose.

I disagree.
She continues to conduct herself with the same the "grace, intelligence and dignity she used to possess."
It is that grace, intelligence and dignity that will take Pennsylvania by double digits as well as Indiana and the other remaining states and prevail with the Florida and Michigan delegates and the popular vote and become the legitimate Democratic candidate and the next President of the United States.
And all of her detractors on the left can either eat their words or continue to take tea with Ann Coulter.

Sorry to be pedantic, but Lee Hall actually wrote the BE lyrics :P
Also, agree with all above posters, Elton John really needs to stick to music and throwing F-hab-ulous parties...
