I was away the last week, and had no idea it finally came out (on VOD...)

So... thoughts?

I think I need to re-watch Cat People and American Gigolo to see back when Paul Shrader did compelling and stylish sleeze (maybe it just needed a Giorgio Moroder soundtrack?) I actually liked Lindsay Lohan overall--and I appreciated the male nudity and "gay" sex scene.

I was initially bored, but kinda got into how insane the whole film was by the end. Funk did fine, and I appreciated the male nudity, though James Deen's appeal has never really made an impression with me--I know screenwriter Ellis loves him and wants him for the lead in a 50 Shades of Grey movie, but... (maybe I have to watch some of his porn scenes.) (And Shrader's directing style of having people talk directly to the camera reminded me mostly of Tyler Perry's directing style in movies.)

Brett Easton Ellis' tweets have been insane to follow for a while, but he was one of my favorite authors for a long time. I'm just not sure what he was going for with this...

I have to say I really enjoyed it, Lohan showed she can still act if she commits and James Deen made a pretty good mainstream debut (he reminded me of a darker more sinister version of Sebastian in Cruel Intentions). Of course the film is flawed and it could have commented more on Hollywood, but as a drama/trashy thriller I enjoyed it.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. But here is a fantastic interview with Paul Schrader.

Variety gave it a rave while the Hollywood Reporter gave it a pan.

Interesting.

The one performance they both liked was Gerard Nolan Funk.

Actually, I think Lohan did do a good job. As did Funk (with that name, shouldn't he be the porn star?) SongandDance, I thought Deen was *terrible*

Made the mistake of watching this tonight. I highly recommend it to people who are into endless exposition, delivered poorly.
