Funny article from the Onion AV Club about discontinued, under appreciated junk food.

Posted: 7/6/09 at 12:44pmI'm pretty sure Gatorgum (Or a variant of) was around in the 90s...otherwise I was chewing some really really old ass gum.

Holiday Spice Pepsi tasted like...well, Let's just say that the flavor made me think of a fluid that only Mrs. Claus had ever tasted.

There used to be a candy called Tar Babies. I kid you not. They were little chocolates in the shape of babies, faces and all.
They were made by the same company that makes the Ju-Ju-Bees (hmmm, I'm sensing a pattern here).
Anyway, not only are they off the market, but every trace of them has been removed from the web. I was searching for a picture a couple of years ago for another candy themed thread and couldn't find it anywhere.
There was one off-handed remark on some obscure blog that mentioned them, but otherwise nada.
Of course, this is in Virginia so it should come as no surprise that they were available here in the first place.

They are actually called "licorice babies" now...but I remember them being called tar babies.

I actually remember them being chocolaty, not licorice, which I dislike...I remember getting them at the Jersey shore when I was a kid...along with Wacky Packs....

I loved GatorGum! PB Max was great, too (and who didn't have a crush on the plow boy in the commercial?).
I also remember a short-lived cookie that I coveted. I think it was Keebler, but I'm not sure. It had a thin almost wafer-like exterior and was shaped like a large chocolate bar (though tan in color) and each square was filled with really creamy peanut butter. I remember it being advertised as "cookies" but the cookies were all joined together in one bar like a Hershey bar. Does that ring any bells with anyone else?

Posted: 7/6/09 at 1:28pmTar Babies were Chocolate- My mom loved 'em. She also loved Licorice dots called "Crows" as in "Jim Crow" we both always assumed.

Posted: 7/6/09 at 1:55pmPB Max was my all-time favorite candy as a kid. It was like a Kit-Kat (my second favorite) but better because it had Peanut Butter.

BB Bats were kind of genius tho...who could tell if they were 2 weeks old or 2 years old? They basically smelled like old purse.
