After reading both Angels & Demons & The Da Vinci Code....I think Angels & Demons would make a better movie. I hope the producers & director stay true to the book...I can't wait to see the movie. Anyword who is playing Langdon?

They're naming the usual suspects- George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe. Who knows. Speculation is less than meaningless in this kind of thing.

I picked up a copy of THE DaVINCI CODE at Manchester Airport in England this summer. It's out in paperback there and it's interesting to note that all the spelling applies the British style (i.e: "colours" for "colors" etc.)
I found most of the book to be mesmerizing. In fact there were times I was rushing back to my hotel room to read the book rather than socialize with my friends. However, I figured out the denouement about 200 pages before the novel ended--and for me it fell apart. Looking back on the novel, I now think it was over-plotted and absurd in some places. The action spans about two days and the hero and heroine never go to the bathroom, never eat (except for some instant coffee) and never get fatigued.
As a young boy I was always bothered by the appearance of St. John in da Vinci's THE LAST SUPPER. To learn that it was actually a woman didn't shock me, nor did I feel the novel challenged Christ's Divinity. It just gave a more human quality to his human nature.

The novel didn't challenge Jesus' Divinity? I guess that depends on what you mean. If you read my last post, you'll note that Teabings comes right out and says that Jesus' divinity was voted on at the Nicean Council. If that's not challenging His divinity, I don't know what is... So, I guess that Teabings character does, even if the book doesn't, if that's what you mean...
Enthralling if "poetic" novel! Should make a gripping and fun film.
If you want to read a VERY interesting book about Christianity (not a novel), try "Why Christianity Must Change or Die" by John Shelby Spong (Anglican bishop). It's DaVinci-esque in its approach regarding rethinking Christianity, but it's based in fact, and is a radical and moving reconsideration of Jesus and Christianity. It's positive, practical and fascinating!

It's like everything Brown writes: A fun, albeit absurd story that is horribly written. It's definitely a page-turner, but at the same time I was wincing at the way it was written. Tacky and pedestrian.

I read somewhere that Russel Crowe has signed-on to play Robert Landon in both (DaVinci and Angels) films.
I also read that Kate Beckensale is going to play the female lead in DaVinci

Hey, heartinNYC. I haven't read Bishop Spong's book, but I've seen him on several interviews and read a view articles of his in different publications. I think A) his understanding of Christianity is incredibly derivative and confused and B) his "rethinking" of the Bible through a postmodern lense is completely ludicrous. What message does the book convey? A religion must adapt to the society it finds itself in? I'm not trying to be snarky, honest. It's just that things he has said in the past have REALLY pissed me off and I want to know what he has to say in this book you're talking about.
Does anyone else think that Sam Rockwell would make a terrific Langdon, or is it just me?
OOH!
Scratch that.
