I work at a library, and this book was a popular read in our town, as it was always on the waiting list. There are probably still a few people who put it on the waiting list from time to time.
Is Angels and Demons a prequel (sp?) to Da Vinci Code...thought I heard that.
Other "in" books were/are:
"The Last Juror" - John Grisham
"3rd Degree" - James Patterson
"Ransom" - Danielle Steel
"Five People You Meet in Heaven" - Mitch Albom
"Bleachers" - forgot author
Countless others!

Dan Brown is a friend of mine. Drives me crazy cuz he won't give me any info on his next book. I only get the news from the papers. I think it has something to do with the Mason's.
I love to read his books because they are so jam packed with interesting historical tidbits. It's like getting a tour and an education in a theme park thrill ride.
It's Reality Theatre. The gay marriage musical that exposes everything. THE BIG VOICE: God or Merman?

Mythus, you have a Back to the Future shirt? I have two! I love you!
I loved the Da Vinci Code. I've become fascinated with this interpretation of the Holy Grail mythology. I did read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, but I thought after awhile it was becoming a little too far-fetched in its theories. I mean, the Bible is also, in my opinion, complete conjecture, but Barabbas as Jesus' son? Jesus faking his own crucifixion? Eh....
As for the movie, I'm just hoping they don't completely screw it up. I hear that the four top choices for Langdon are Hugh Jackman, George Clooney, Russell Crowe, and Tom Hanks. I can see Hugh doing it, but Crowe would mumble his lines, Clooney's too c-cky, and Hanks isn't attractive enough, I think. I've heard some good suggestions, though. Kevin Kline or Kenneth Branagh would have been good if they were younger. A couple ideas for Teabing I've heard are Ian Holm, Brian Cox, or Bernard Hill. What do you all think?

He has to be good with exposition, though

I loved Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, and Digital Fortress. DVC was definitely my favorite. I could not put it down!!
As for the movie, I think Michael Cain(sp??) would be a perfect Teabing. He'd be SO good in that role!

The book has been released in paperback in Europe but that doesn't seem to be the case here in the States. I bought it at an airport and was fully engrossed in it until about 3/4 of the way through it. At that point I pretty well figured out what the denouement would be and the plot became extremely artificial.
Does it bother me that Jesus could have been married to Mary Magdalene? Not one bit. There has been a long-held theory that after the Crucifixion, Mary Magdalene went to Rome and not only had Pontius Pilate removed from his position in Jerusalem, but saw that he was exiled to Siberia. It's an absurd theory at best, but if this woman was the spouse of Jesus, it would explain the woman's tenacity.
