Recently I discovered The Daydreamer, the Rankin & Bass movie based on tales of Hans Christian Andersen. It's not as well known as the R&B holiday shows but it's just as creative.
It's just amazing that Rankin & Bass could gather so many talented people for their shows.

I love it. I have the DVD and the soundtrack. I saw it first on TV, after school one day. I had the same OMG reaction Reg did at discovering that the Scarecrow and Witch were in another movie together (even if they don't share a scene).
The live action stuff is a setup for extended "Animagic" figure animation (like Rudolph, etc.), exploring several of the Hans Christian Anderson fairytales. The best part is the incredible voice talent assembled. First-rate actors. The songs aren't bad either!
But it definitely drags and some sequences are painfully slow.
Still, it's well worth watching, and it's enjoyable, especially if you first saw it as a kid.
