Alright, I need assurance that I am not crazy here. I was listening to FAME for like the millionth time, and once again, as it never fails to make me do, I teared up. When it got to the reprise of let's play a love scene, I began to sing along, and got so hysterical and formed such a huge lump in my throat that I couldn't utter a noise and had to turn it off. My two biggest regrets in life are not enrolling in a CMT and getting more involved in high school theatre, and thus I think that's why this show is so, so, so, SOOOO emotional for me.

So I am just wondering: is anybody here like me with FAME, or any other cast album for that matter, or am I crazy here? Is there any show music that you often find a tough time singing or getting through because of its emotional hold?

I tear up at the fact that Dolly lost the Oscar for "9 to 5" that year to the title song of "Fame". I mean, does it get any better than "9 to 5"?

It only makes me tear up when I realize that I am old enough to have played the 8-TRACK of the soundtrack while during to college!

Are you referring to the movie soundtrack or the cast recording?

I've never heard the soundtrack (the movie never did anything for me), but the cast recording, aside from Gavin, does indeed make me want to cry... for different reasons than you, though...

The cast recording ... I've never seen the movie (want to, though).

I tear up too, because it reminds me of the TERRIBLE tour I saw of this.

I get nauseous, because I sat through that godforsaken show at the Little Shubert. 2 hours of hell.

It really is an awesome show, and the music does indeed stand out waaaaay apart from other musicals. "Bring on Tomorrow" is the most emotional showtune EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could tear up, but I have the lameo London cast album of the show. It has too much reverb, the accents are absolutely HORRIBLE, the guitarist's distortion amp sounded like it wasn't working at ALL, and some of them sounded unbearable. The only one that stands out is Marcos D'Cruze's "Can't Keep It Down" smothered in flamenco guitar.

I wish I could've had any one of the new cast albums with either Jennifer Gambatese and Gavin Creel or Christopher Hanke and Sara Schmidt. Then I would've really torn up.

And by the way, since we're on the subject, does anyone know or remember the clean lyrics to "Can't Keep It Down" which here is "Can't Keep It Cool"?

I remember it starts out:

"Do you know what it's like when you wake up in the morning from a dream..."

"How could she just suddenly, completely disappear into thin water?" - The Little Mermaid

i can't imagine it would even be REMOTELY possible to tear up listening to the cast recording of FAME, even if i saw it...but the soundtrack to the original movie...now that's another story...'is it o.k. if i call you mine'..not a great song, but it was a big song in my life for years...'never alone, yes...'body electric'...probably not...overdone too much over the years...

and 'out here on my own' music by michael gore lyrics by his sister leslie gore, a 60's pop star...who recently came out as a lesbian...that's cool...maybe that will make me tear up.
