it was the first game of the ncaa hockey finals in 1999. i sang the national anthem before the game started, in front of my family and thousands of other people. My grandmother and mother still talk about it to this day.

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

A while ago I was West Side Story as What else? BABY JOHN. re: The First Time Your Parents Heard You Sing Well I had a few solos during the show so...yeah...

KRISTEN CHENOWETH To show my gratitude, I'll offer you this pointy black hat, which is just like the one Original Wicked Witch Margaret Hamilton wore in the movie! IDINA MENZEL What a great idea! How about throughout the play, you continue to offer me things like a black cloak, or a black cape, or a broom to make me look more and more like Margaret Hamilton did! These attempts at humor will be painfully predictable from a mile away! AUDIENCE collectively groans.

I dont think its happened, but my parents seem to think so...

The first time singing in front of my mother was interesting... my song came up, the band didnt start playing, so I sang the first verse a capella (sounded horrid). This was my second time singing in front of an audience, so I got all flustered and forgot the lyrics for verse two... later in the song, I saw my mother in the front crying her eyes out. At intermission, I checked my cell phone - she left me a message saying how wonderful I was and that she never knew I could sing like that... lol, I guess she has low standards.

Overwhelming! It's a great feeling to know that your parents were impressed by there own flesh and blood. It's a worth-while experience.

my voice teacher records my lessons every week. one week i had been driving my mom's car and left a lesson it in her cd player. apparantly she listened to most of it and couldn't believe it was me! it felt great, and it's made her much more supportive of spending money on my lessons re: The First Time Your Parents Heard You Sing Well
