All I need is Colin Firth as...someone...and my life will be complete.
I'm dying for some Jennifer Saunders and/or Joanna Lumley!
I semi-disagree with you, Viet. I think the artistic style of the 3rd movie was great. I hope the rest of the films are like that. I also enjoyed the scenes that made it to the film. *That*, I think Cuaron nailed. My only gripe (I think - "only" is an extreme word) is that there was a lot of character development and plot holes that could have been filled in, had Cuaron kept, say, an extra 20 minutes in the movie.
I'm also choked that GoF is only 1 film instead of two. Aside from missing out from an extremely lucrative opportunity, imagine all of the scenes that will be cut out! Apparently (was it EW that said that) Cuaron was the person who convinced them to make it 1 flick instead of 2.

**SPOILERS ABROAD***
I agree that I missed a lot of the things that Cuaron cut out, but I think what they wanted to do was to make one coherent movie rather than trying to put too much in the film. The only thing that I really disagreed with the cut was not including the backstory of the mauraders. However, I think it was smart of them to not include in the shrieking shack scene because it makes sense that Sirius not be in the mood to some explaining while he is in that uncontrollable rage to kill Pettigrew. I think they could have included it in the scene after...right before the wolf-change. But then again, that wouldn't make much sense either because why would it take so long for the moon to cause the wolf change in Lupin.
However, I can undertand why the filmakers (not just Cuaron because the producers and writer have to agree to the cut and decisions) decided to wait till GOF to tell that backstory. I believe that they felt that it would give Sirius and Harry more scenes together to strengthen their relationship before the 5th book where you-know-what happens.
Eventhough I felt that Cuaron could have extended the time and include more things just for the sake to have them, I rather have the film be concise and have a real point than to drag and be a mess. Even with the cuts, I felt POA had much more character development and more of the atmosphere of the school and local wizarding community than the first two movies had combined.
Oh, what are the chances that Jennifer Saunders might make an appearance since her good friend Dawn French is the Fat Lady. Maybe she'll be the woman she gets drunk with during the Yule Ball.
*** Probably gonna be SPOILERS ***
Are they really putting the backstory of the Maurader's Map in the 4th movie? Because that was the one thing that really peeved me. I really wish Gary Oldman was given more scenes to work with because Sirius is my favorite character and the part where he invites Harry to stay with him - in the book - brings tears to my eyes, but did nothing for me in the movie because you don't really get to know the character. He doesn't have too much to do in the 4th book/movie so.....
Have you seen pics of the ... sorry, name drawing a blank...the French half-Veela schoolgirl?

I heard, in a EW interview that the filmakers all decided that it would be better for the overall film series if they moved the backstory to GOF. I think they want to bulk up and try to milk the Sirius/Harry scenes in GOF because those are really the only scenes that Harry and Sirius really got to talk before the 5th book where Sirius isn't in the best light.
In hindsight, it is a smart move to move it to GOF where the scene will be a lot calmer and you get to see more Sirius in a normal situation. Also, the reason why we readers loved Sirius so much in the third book wasn't so much about him, but more that he was Harry's ticket out of that hell hole called the Dursleys...and since the movies don't portray the Dursleys as bad as they are in the books, the affect won't be there no matter what.
I also won't judge the look of the actress playing Fleur Delacour until I see her some pics of her in character. I feel bad for any actress that would have to play her because people already have that impossible expectation of beauty that she must have, and no actress could meet that.
I was thinking the exact same thing about feeling sorry for that actress. Look at the flack Diane Kreuger (sp?) got when she played Helen of Troy *cringe*.
Did you hear that they cut the Dursleys out completely of the 4th movie? THAT bothers me. (I'm glad Jason Isaacs is in though! He's awesome, for lack of a better word this late at night!)

I actually could understand why they were taken out. As comic as the tongue toffee scene is, I think the Dursleys aren't important in the 4th book. Now, if you they were cut out of book 5, I would raise hell!
I would love to see Jason Issacs and his pimp stick/wand again. *swoon* (although I admit I'm more of a Thelewis/Lupin girl*
*swoon* Keep Thewlis, I'll take Isaacs and those sexy blue eyes ANY day! (Sorry for the fangirling. I greatly enjoy him.) At least we're not those creepy Rickman lovers!
While the Dursleys aren't as important in the 4th book, I like hte consistency of having them there as proverbial bookends, ya know? Sort of a sense of familiarity in each of the books. Apparently the actors didn't find out they were outta the books until they called hte production company while filming was underway asking for their scripts and they were told there...well...weren't any. OUCH. (I think that was in EW.) I wish they made the Dursleys more despicable in the movies. I don't know why they went easy on them. There were rumors initially that the Quidditch World Cup was cut out in its entirety, but I really don't think that's true. (Otherwise I'd fall over and die. How would they do the Dark Mark?) Have you heard anything about this? Really, without the world cup, or at least the events surrounding the world cup.......*shaking head*

Type_A_Tiff, the World Cup is defintely IN the movie. Go to mugglenet.com or http://the-leaky-cauldron.org/ and take a look at some of the pics. It looks like how I pictured them.
In some of the pics, they have an orange light in the backgroud that I think is going to be fire for the scene where some of the bigoted wizards get drunk and cause a violent riot.
Also, the actor playing Goyle wrote in his diary about his experience with the Yule Ball dance classes that he had to take for the Yule Ball scenes. Bonne Wright, actress playing Ginny Weasley, made similar comments.
Viet, couldn't find the photos of the World Cup. Which page is it on?
I did, however, read Jason Isaacs letter to his fans, and swooned a little bit. I heart him. That is all. Okay, that's not all.
I didn't understand this bit from muggle.net "...manager of a bookstore passed along to us a memo he received that said to expect a release date for the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, in January 2005. This would be a logical time if the book is indeed going to be released in June, as rumors would have it (see here)." Does this mean it's announced to be released in January or June? Either way, I doubt it'll that soon, if JK's patterns keep up!
Lemme know about those World Cup pics. I'd really like to see them!

It means that the official announcement from the publishers will be released in January. There was a credibile rumor that the book was going to be released in June, and mugglenet.com is speculating that it is going to be released in June and commenting that the announcement date gives more weight to that rumor.
The set pictures were a bit older than I thought, so you have to look in the archives here:

You have to scroll down. You can just press "ctrl + F" and search for "GOF set pictures"
Oh cool. I finally found the pics (I'm really dense - long story). The outside of the Cup looks like how I thought it would be, in the middle of nowhere. I'm really eager to see how the Quidditch field will look. What's Image 6? The green building? I don't see the orange light you're talking about. Do you mean near the tents?
ok, i'm not saying i don't like gary oldman as sirius... but i just pictured him as more attractive. and i know that he just spent 12 years in azkaban, but in later books i picture him more handsome. just my thoughts. same for lupin... i know he goes through awful transformations everymonth, i just pictured him as more attractive (not saying he wasn't cast well). just what i thought when reading the books, and no, i have no idea who i would've cast as lupin.
There are 3 topics that I love more than anything else.
1. Theatre
2. Greek and Roman Mythology
3. Harry Potter
I don't know how many times I've read the books. I stopped counting at 10. I have not read any of them in over a year, though, so I'm starting to get rusty.
I do not love the movies. I've seen each of them once, but I really don't care whether I ever see them again or not. They're nice, but they mess with my mental images. Hermione's hair isn't messy enough, Ron isn't tall enough, and Neville isn't awkward enough. (The worst crime: My favorite character, Lee Jordan, the Quidditch announcer, is too young and not funny enough.)
I have several theories about what will happen in coming books (some of my book 5 predictions came true).
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT
If Snape is a Vampire, you heard it here first.
END OF POSSIBLE SPOLIER ALERT
A friend of a friend started a fascinating website on the etymology of the books. She and I have had a few conversations on our theories, and some of hers are stranger than mine. Anyway, if you're interested in the books, you might find this entertaining.

Love Harry Potter, although it may be time for a re-read. Really want a NEW book though. A re-read just before the new book comes out.....great stuff!!! VERY satisfying, don't need television or movies or...gulp...even message boards for a week or so.
I LOVE Harry Potter. It took me a while to really be captivated by it- at first I resisted reading the books because (gulp!) I dismissed them as children's books...But once I read the first one, I was hooked. I've since re-read them a few times.
I like the movies- don't love them, but they're not as horrible as some people think. They also feature some of my favorite stars (Dame Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson) so it's always great when there's a new one (even though Julie Christie was WASTED in POA).
And.......watch what you say, Tiff! I am one of those "Rickman lovers" you referred to! I happen to think he's sexy as hell.

VIETgrlTerifa - You'll have to fight me for Mr. Thewlis I don't know why, but in the boggart class in the third movie, when Neville come up and Lupin does the little "Hello" I melt into a puddle on the floor.
The two things tiding me over till the next book as far as reading material goes are the shoebox project and stuff written by a person known as 'after the rain', who has a very interesting view on Pettigrew.

omg moonys_autumn...there was just the way he was in that scene that was so...I don't know how to say it, but I melted too. Now I sound like some sort of fangirl.
On the second disk of the POA DVD, you get to see more of him when you explore the DADA classroom.
For you Rickman fangirls out there, you have to see this:

"Hugh Grant would have been a good Lockhart..."
So would have Ewan McGregor (sp?).
Doesn't Alan Rickman (Snape) have a wonderful speaking voice? It's so deep and mysterious.

(Gah! She did it again! I have to start checking...)
VIETgrlTerifa - I'm guessing you got my PM, if not, I shall briefly sum it up; Lupin = Instant Hurray!
millie_dillmount - Alan Rickman plays Snape perfectly, his voice is absolutely great for the role.
HUUUUUUGE Harry Potter freak sitting right here! XD
Hugh Grant was actually tapped for Lockhart first. Being a huge Kenneth Branagh fan, though, I was very pleased with the final casting.
I enjoy the movies, but I really LOVE the third one. And, since we're talking about the fine HP men, I'll own up to being a TOTAL Lucius fangirl. As far as the movies go, anyway. Lupin gets much love, too. But I can still remember the moment I saw just the CLIP of Lucius's first scene in CoS online and just MELTING.
And who's saying that Gary Oldman doesn't clean up well? That man can be VERY attractive.
***SPOILERS***
If Snape is a vampire, I might just have to hurt someone. I hate that theory. :P Besides, JKR already pretty much debunked it. I'll go and find that quote again if you want.
***END SPOILERS***
I think that all the release date rumors are pretty much bogus. Like the last book, they'll give us a release date when JKR gives them the manuscript. It's no use guessing when she's going to be finished.
Bump.
