So I saw this movie like 5 days ago, and I thought it was GREAT!
Sean Penn was like GUH AMAZING
Nicole Kidman, love her as usual
The only thing that bugged me about this movie was the "lack of flames" I guess bewteen Kidman and Penn. I think it's kind of cliched to have them fall in love with each other through this movie, but that one scene on the couch sort of LOOKS to me like they were falling in love..but they actually weren't? So I was like .. what?
But yeah GREAT movie. I suggest it to ANYBODY.
The story was so thrilling too. My friend was confused because she doesn't follow movies easily- it's one of those movies you have to pay attention to understand. I LOVE MOVIES LIKE THAT
anyone else seen it?

I saw it...and thought it was FABULOUS!! There were so many twists at the end...hahaha I got really confused as to who were the "bad guys" and who were not. I thought Sean was fab of course...and Nicole looked beautiful. I was really jealous of her hair throughout the movie. That being said, GO SEE THE MOVIE!! ![]()

I do hate to be a party pooper, but I was deeply underwhelmed by this movie. I thought Nicole Kidman, while looking possibly the best she's EVER looked, was singularly unconvincing and couldn't maintain the accent. Sean Penn was fabulous of course. As for the chemistry between them, and hinting at the possibility of romance between them, WHY BOTHER? It seemed half assed and half finished. Add to this the fact that Catherine Keener was reduced to a glorified walk on, loitering in the background and talking on her cell phone for 90% of the movie and I got the feeling that a lot of material was left on the cutting room floor.
And then there's the many many twists. Far too many of them. Each one more ludicrous and yet predictable than the last. And the ending really defied belief. A huge HUGE disappointment.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 11:01amI really enjoyed it, and I definitely felt like there was some unresolved sexual tension between Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, but I was REALLY glad they didn't do anything about it. Just because nothing happened didn't mean there weren't any feelings. Much better this way.

Well exactly, I was glad this didn't turn into a cliched love story but if the director didnT want them falling in love, why add that bit in in the first place? Leave them alone to the terror of the movie lol
...yes I envied Nicole's hair too.... 9485209

Posted: 5/11/05 at 2:20pmI'd argue that they did end up with very strong feelings for each other, but had lives moving in very different directions.

it's called a lack of direction.
It's obvious Penn took a paycheck.
Kidman did look good and it's a crime Catherine Keener's role ended up on the cutting room floor.
I just thought the movie was predicatable and a little far fetched.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 3:25pmI enjoyed it very much. I thought the performances were solid enough to keep me entertained and the plot was extremely engaging. kept me guessing until the end... with an outcome I was not expecting nor did I even catch on until the president was in the limo on his way to the conference... Taryn-
true, they had strong feelings in the end, but to me it seemed more of a "we went through this whole experience together, I'll never forget you" but not like lovey dovey

Hated it.
Hated Penn and Kidman in it. They both looked so uninterested.
Loved Catherine Keener, though. Someone write this gal a decent part, for crying out loud!

I adore you mefan for saying that :)
Nicole Holofcener's seems to write well for her, Keener has been in all of her films so far.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 5:21pmYeah, LOVELY AND AMAZING was the perfect film for Keener. She was divine in it. The role of Maxine in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH also perfectly suited her. She is an amazingly talented and versatile actress who deserves to be a huge star.
