I saw this last night, as it was given a free screening as the winner of the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.
Such a simple idea (a man overcomes a speech impediment), yet so well executed. Colin Firth is so good as the earnest but frustrated would-be king, struggling under expectations and burdened with a stutter that makes him 'unsuitable' to assume the mantle of king. Helena Bonham Carter is delightful as his wife--the woman we would later know as the Queen Mother. And Geoffrey Rush, with great panache plays the unconventional Australian speech therapist who would both challenge and befriend the prince (and later king).
A film about a kings, yet one we can totally relate to. And such natural, wonderful humor. I've read Rush being mentioned as a possible supporting actor nominee (not undeservedly), although I would like to see Firth nominated for best actor for a second year in a row. A very enjoyable film.
