The Lovely Bones (Peter Jackson's next project)

So with Peter Jackson winning the Academy Award for "The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" and his almost guaranteed nomination for "King Kong" which people are already calling a classic...I'm very excited to see "The Lovely Bones" come to fruition. It's an extremely good book and I'm curious to see how it will work on screen.

Anyone else excited?

Of course I'm interested in anything Jackson outputs; I've seen all his films and have only been disappointed once (the parodic MEET THE FEEBLES). Even his early splatter films are genius.

I'm a bit worried about THE LOVELY BONES, though. I haven't read the book, but from the synopsis it sounds like a cross between THE SIXTH SENSE and the gawd-awful WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. I was hoping Jackson would tackle the fascinating AS NATURE MADE HIM instead.

Ugh....I hated this book! TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL meets the Marquis De Sade. Sentimental tragedy porn.

Sentimental tragedy porn.

Throw in some hilarity, a "rat monkey" and gallons of blood, and you've got Peter Jackson's masterpiece, DEAD/ALIVE (BRAINDEAD).

"Sentimental tragedy porn."

That's the most interesting description of anything I've seen on these boards. Sounds like large chunks of my life.

While I can see where you're coming from, BorstalBoy, I mostly loved the book. There is a sudden lurch two thirds of the way through that doesn't work and the end is a little weak, but I was generally bursting into tears every four pages or so. The explanation of her death to her younger brother using Monopoly pieces made me weep and I get emotional even now when I explain it to people.

I'm sure "Bones" will be fantastic with Jackson at the helm. I'm hoping that he casts Andy Serkis as Mr. Harvey, and also that Jamie Bell makes it into the cast somwhere as well.

Lucky is extremely hard work, for all the right reasons.

I know what it's about. I just don't want to read it until I move away, because it would freak me out too much.

Many of my friends love this book, so I gave it a try-- forced myself through 30 pages or so. I didn't enjoy it. I don't understand why so many people love it. Maybe I'll like the movie better.

I actually quite liked this book. I think it would work very well as a movie, too.

I love this book! I love the way heaven is delineated, I love Suzy, I just love it...one of my favorites. I think it will be a tricky film to make, but Peter Jackson has done some brilliant things before, and I hope he will do them again with this project!

It's been a couple of years since I've read the book, but I remember loving it.
