I do like the movie and the fact that they pretty well just stuck to the play.
Did you see the brief revival done in 2000 by Nathan Lane, Hank Stratton, Jean Smart, Lewis Stadlen, Harriett Harris, et al? It runs on PBS occassionally and is well worth watching.

Yes I did! I'm a huge fan of Mr.Lane's work.

we're doing The Man Who Came to Dinner as our Fall Play...
what's the best female part in it?
I heard it's hilarious, and I'm quite excited... except that I was really looking forward to doing "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (the advisor and I had discussed doing it and she said that this year she wouldn't be doing it cause she felt that it would take away from the school musical and it may not be accepted by her boss)

The real female lead is Maggie Cutler, Whiteside's secretary - played by Bette Davis in the movie. She's smart and sarcastic. She falls in love with a local reporter, and Whiteside tries to sabotage the romance so she won't leave her job.
The suopporting role of Lorraine Sheldon, the actress, can steal the show.
Other good supporting comic roles are Miss Preen (the nurse) and Miss Stanley, the crazy aunt.

I'm really excited about this show. I've heard so many good things about it and cannot wait to be a part of it... it'll be very soon for school starts for me on Tuesday-eeeek!

Miss Stanley is my fav! Depending on the director you can chew every piece of scenery there is w out having to memorize too many lines!

In the 1972 Orson Welles Made-for-TV version, JOAN COLLINS played Lorraine Sheldon!
In the recent Broadway revival which was taped for PBS, Jean Smart played Lorraine.

I love Billie Burke in "Gildersleeve on Broadway," "Father of The Bride" and oh so many films.

hey all~ I got cast as June Stanley in this show today! Is that a good thing? I was hoping for Lorraine, and I was shoe-in (or so everyone and myself thought) but today's 2nd audition (i was asked to come back) there was a girl there and she's a freshman and she's good, but when i asked the director about it she said we were equally great just that the girl had a good voice for the character that she was looking for. I don't see why she wouldn't have mentioned it though... i mean i created a different voice than myself for the part, but I would have appreciated her idea of what she wanted for Lorraine in the beginning. Anyways, the freshman got it. I was just thinking that doesn't seniority count at this point? finally, when i'm a senior it doesn't?!

i was in this show ages ago and had a blast. i was miss preen (the much harrassed nurse) and a good friend of mine was the crazy aunt...
have fun with your show. i believe that miss stanley is the aunt right? i always thought that rita rudner would have made an excellent crazy aunt with an airheaded/spiritual portrayal.

june is the ingenue. ITs not a huge role.

yeah, i know. it was frustrating about the Loraine role. and I know that June isn't a huge role, but is it somewhat good? i mean she has a storyline going on about her and her boyfriend who are in love and the parents aren't happy about it.

its a basic ingenue role. Its also one of the few roles that was not patterened after an actual famous person of the 30s, which is what the show is about.
