So, I just watched The Fall directed by Tarsem. It stars Lee Pace and it has become, by far, my favorite movie ever. It is so creative and visually stunning. If you haven't seen this wonderful film, you definitely need to check it out.

Posted: 1/25/09 at 1:22amI loooove The Fall as well!! :) Well, mostly because both Lee Pace and the little girl were FANTASTIC in it. But it was definitely incredible visually as well. I feel like I actually need to watch it another time or two to REALLY fully understand everything about it, but even on the first viewing I thought it was gorgeous.

I would say Benjamin Button.
It tells a good lesson in the end that nothing is impossible...whatever your dream might be.

Well I feel that it doesn't matter if you start life young getting older - - or
old getting younger ...... it's Diapers in the end either way!

Posted: 1/25/09 at 2:36pmI got the message in Benjamin Button as well. That final montage made me cry. It's hard to make me cry.

Tarsem designed some great costumes, but the movie itself bored me. And Lee Pace's character was annoying as hell. Am I supposed to feel sorry for a suicidal guy who uses a lonely and impressionable little girl to steal drugs?
Another beautiful film is Curse Of The Golden Flower.
It's thoroughly mediocre, but the visuals are eye-poppingly gorgeous. Especially on BD.

Posted: 1/25/09 at 4:31pmThe most visually beautiful film, imo, is George Stevens' The Greatest Story Ever Told. It's a total bore, but a beautiful one.

Posted: 1/25/09 at 9:47pmTazber, I do see where you're coming from with the Lee Pace character, but I totally adored the end where he was finishing the story and crying and just basically having a breakdown. I thought it was amazingly acted.

^YES. omg that scene.
That is the scene that thoroughly convinced me that Lee Pace is going to be HUGE in the coming years. Give him the right roles, and he's freaking incredible
He needs to do more movies :)
(you know, now that Pushing Daisies was unrightfully canceled. *pout*)

I enjoyed the frontal nudity in Cinema Paradiso.
With Benjamin Button, it emphasizes hard work and destiny.
The character of Tilda Swanson always dreamt of swimming across the English channel but she failed and devastated her for years....only to succeed at an older age after overcoming her fear.
It gives hope to people lost in achieving their impssible dreams...whatever it might be that it's never too late to achieve something significant.
Everybody is significant.
Some people are destined to be great caregivers.
The greatest ballerina in the world.
Greatest wife or husband.
Etc.

The Fall was a very pretty movie, indeed.
But, I don't know... I felt like it was missing something.
