I have to say I just went to check this movie out... and I went to the website. I imagine I'll be fired now.

It looks intriguing. I'd like to give it a spin.

Hmmm... about Storytelling... James and Heather were cut from the movie... they had their own segment... but it wouldn't have made the movie any better... the cutting from what i undestand had less to do with controversy and more to do with the director's decision to cut it from the movie. As Todd Solondz did not bow to the massive pressure he recieved with Happiness I can't imagine he would bow to the WB... Secondly... HOW ON EARTH COULD YOU NOT FIND IRREVERSIBLE SHOCKING? I do my best to not be prone to overstatement... but... if you don't find irreversible shocking and disturbing I really don't know what to say... to fill in those who don't know... Irreversible starts with(well about 15 min in) a man being graphically beaten with a fire exstinguisher until his face literally caves in... and his body begins to twitch... Irreversible is shot with no cuts between scenes so it looks honest to goodness as if a man's face has been beaten off before our eyes... then about 45 minutes deep the wife of the main character is graphically raped and beaten within an inch of her life. As stated before there are no cuts between scenes so... the film asks us to watch this without cutting away... no close ups... no fades... just full on as this woman is violated and most probably killed... I honestly don't get how you could not be moved to shock by this... Even those who know what to expect... I just can't get it... Well...I don't know... um... So that was me making a grand overstatement. Any way... point being I found Irreversible more artistic and pointed then Ken Park... or for that matter anything Larry Clark has done. Since I've already taken up so much space... here's more... Pink Flamingos is a bit rough (but a riot) but Female Trouble I find to be much more...well... troubling. It just makes me feel all dirty in my cha cha heels.

That does sound shocking... I dont know if I would be able to watch someone get their face beat in with a fire extinguisher...

Hairspray and Cry Baby were the only two John Waters films I liked. The early ones were just gross and the later ones weren't as clever. As far as Todd Solondz, I love Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness was interesting, but Storytelling didn't really do much for me. I must say one of the most disturbing scenes I have ever seen in a film (and the only one to ever give me nightmares), was the end of Looking For Mr. Goodbar. The visual combined with the sounds were just horrific. Add her swift and rather bizarre attitude change during the scene and it was just.....well, I can't think of a word to describe it. It's simply a film I would never watch again. Another scene that got me was the severe beating of Patricia Arquette in True Romance. The thing I have never understood is the "humor" people found in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I really hated those films and found nothing humorous going on in either.

The Pulp Fiction is blissful and disturbing...together...as friends... the "humor" is in the additude and the irony. I don't really know how it could be missed... I think there have been few films so excited to just exsist since Pulp Fiction. The humor is in the snap of the situations and dialouge. But, i think where Pulp Fiction wins points is it's ability to switch tones between the humor and the violence. The scenes in the resturant and the apartment juggle humor, suspense, and the severity of the situation... the laughs are almost shocking... the situation are played for laughs... they're just there. It would seem (if I'm allowed a small assumption) you would have an issue mixing violence and humor...which is valid... which might cause a turn off... which would explain your disdain for all but softcore John Waters. So... um... fire back.

I'm back on Pink Flamingoes...the first "shocking" film I remember seeing. Divine eating the dog turd is indelibly etched in my mind. A few months ago NPR played an interview with with Divine taped shortly before his death. As I recall, he talked about how grateful he was to Jon Waters for helping him find his niche, but he also talked about how traumatic it was filming that scene. He said that for years he continued to worry about what weird diseases he might have contracted.

hmmmm... i believe there was a short gay scene in rules of attraction, mostly stuff with clothes on, they must have only kept the begining. so whatshisface has done two of these scenes. is he by any chance, hiding anything from his wb fans? i dont really know much about him, but he does seem pretty eager. i dont know...

as with rules of attraction that wasn't very shocking, there were gay scenes filmed but taken out of the film, they should be re-included on the unedited director's cut released soon!

Oh yeah, it's been whispered for years that Van der Beek's gay. One of the big rumors was that he was having a affair with the guy who played his dad, and that's why the dad ended up getting killed...the WB didn't want their golden forehead's rep tarnished.

He is a really great actor when not on that damn Creek. And Rules of Attraction scenes with that yummy dude....HOT.
