Caps in theaters

There are so many problems with present day audiences that if the only thing bothering you is what someone is wearing... honestly count yourself lucky.

For the record... the brim of a baseball cap CAN obstruct a view so it's not ridiculous to ask someone to take it off... but to worry about someone breaking an outdated fashion rule... really we have nothing else to worry about?

James Ijames' "Wilderness Generation"

Everything I've seen written by him has felt generic. Not at all bad. Fat Ham, especially, is a marvelous showcase for talented actors... there's some great parts in a few of his other shows. But. Most of what he's written feel like great ideas or concepts that are executed blandly and without surprise.

I know he directs and I'd love to see him bring his ideas to texts written by others. His ideas, to me, are often really exciting.

DEATH BECOMES HER To Close on Broadway June 28, 2026

Joining the chorus of the bummed.

The closing has been obvious for a bit but it's still frustrating. As noted above, I'm not sure why they didn't try... anything else? It's true that the two leads are quite demanding and probably hard to replace but why wasn't Viola cast with a rotating assortment of gay icons? Yes, it's quite a sing as written but I'd think they could find some folks to look fabulous and belt it... or even changing the songs

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10/26

Fair!

Sorry. The current Alabama (and most of the south) redistricting has really bent me out of shape. YOUR* correct that many large, cosmopolitan cities are made up of transplants and transfers from your very state.

You're*

Also... "Haha, perfect burn Taco, love it." isn't correct either.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/10/26

"We have standards here, y'know."

Not if you're elected officials, national ranking in education, national ranking in healthcare, and federal dependence is any indication.

Chicago Spring/Summer 2026

There was a statement mailed to subscribers. Standard stuff.

Word on the street is that she wasn't comfortable or capable with the role and/or stage work in general.  It's not like riding a bike, apparently

LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD Reviews

At Steppenwolf, Purpose was unfinished and well into the run actors were holding scripts and calling for lines. The success of the show itself is BJJ's and the actors' accomplishments and is only partially Steppenwolf's.

There are many, many, many other issues with the current (and former) artist directors decisions that you are likely unaware of because you don't live in Chicago. They have fired a good portion of their staff. They have drastically reduced programm

LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD Reviews

Steppenwolf needs Laurie Metcalf a good deal more than Laurie Metcalf needs Steppenwolf. Like. By a lot. Steppenwolf has been artistically adrift since the last few years of the Shapiro administration.

Additionally, Laurie Metcalf is an original member. Burning that bridge would hurt the long term legacy of the company in a way that I think would be difficult to recover from.

Chicago Spring/Summer 2026

SteveSanders said: "Chicago Shakespeare Theater says it has postponed its previously announced production of the musical “Ain’t Misbehavin'” due to performer schedule conflicts..."

Code for "ticket sales were bleak and we had to cancel."

The production was to be directed by Andre Deshields who has a very clear, very public schedule conflict. What a misinformed, but easily verifiable thing to say.

Stereophonic - Radio Edit

Usually cuts like this are to prevent overtime pay and to make things smoother on the road. This is playing subscription houses and those kinds of patrons might be less interested in longer, more shaggy show.

While I agree that cuts could have been made and likely gone unnoticed, the length of the show was an important part of the show experience for me.

The Rocky Horror Show Expectations

This thread is amazing because we have someone suggesting that the "the problem with callouts at this current time in history is everyone wants to be the “main character" and just a few posts later someone is making the whole situation about themselves.

Good work folks.

There was an extremely successful and long running production of Rocky Horror at Stratford and the callouts worked smoothly and were a really terrific part of the production. And

Broadway Fire Sale?

Yes.

And even if it wasn't airlines have become professional gougers and don't deserve any understanding.

The Adding Machine

"i wouldn’t assume this version will be anything like what you’re familiar with."

The musical is VERY similar to the play except for the singing, obviously. This production sounds like it deviates from the original play quite a bit more than the musical does.

BEACHES Previews

This show was lame in Chicago but it wasn't terrible. The issue was clearly the book and a lack of memorable songs. There was a song and a half that were sort of embarrassing but everything else was bland but nice. The songs didn't really propel the story and many of them did not feel like they were in the right place.

It's astonishing folks can work for so long on something, spend so much money, and make so many changes and still end up in the same place they started

JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE 2026 Previews

That's a good point! I hope that's true. I find I'm never very good at predicting who will and who won't be a draw. I thought that American Buffalo woulda drawn a crowd and obviously I was very wrong about that.

JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE 2026 Previews

I adore this play and I wish I could see this production but it's an odd sell, no? There's a lot of great actors here but the only real star is Taraji P. Henson. I love her but I'm not sure she has ever carried a box office success? Cedric the Entertainer's only other Broadway credit is rather notorious for his inability to draw a crowd so... what did they think would set the box office on fire here? I hope it's great and I hope they have a smashing success... ju

MOULIN ROUGE! Broadway Casting Thread

"I want our industry to care more about our stage veterans"

Why would the industry care about stage veterans when audiences don't? Only a handful of "stage veterans" tour or play regional houses. They have no real fan base outside of NYC. Hiring a "stage veteran" for a show that's been running for a million years, aimed at tourists makes no sense.

People aren't compelled to see Danny Burstein becaus

Goodman’s Holiday to transfer?

" Maybe that is just part of their sales approach at this point."

It is... but this particular production is also it's not selling well. I'm not sure why... sounds like a smash on paper and the production itself is pretty swell.

Goodman’s Holiday to transfer?

I'm glad to hear somebody liked her performance. At a late preview I thought she was very obviously out of her depth. Looked GORGEOUS in her costumes tho. She was a Chicago actress... she did a brief stint here and moved to LA with her husband some time ago.

Goodman’s Holiday to transfer?

It's a lovely play and a lovely production (with a really terrible lead performance). Wesley Taylor and Molly Griggs are both exceptional in roles that might appear thankless in other hands. They need a magnetic star in the Katherine Hepburn part if they're planning to transfer. They don't grow on trees. Still, if they found one... I think it would be really something. It's also a role that a semi-capable actress without a lot of charisma could knock outta the park in her slee
