You can read online, if you have a few pointless hours to kill, Wes Craven's original much more faithful script for the 80s movie.

Yeah, Craven was dropped as writer/director because he wanted to stick to the incest (I mean, why else even make the movie?) Of course he was directing some big crap around then, like Deadly Friend (he still makes about two crappy movies for every good one) but it couldn't have been worse than what we got, the casting of Louise Fletcher aside.

Deadly Friend is the most bizarre teen romance/horror film of all time. I dunno how it even got greenlit (and in the '80s, that's saying something.) Death by basketball to the head! Oh wait, it was just a dream...

She's not great, I'll give you that but in theory she shoulda been ideal

PJ, that's fantastic!

A few years back Bust magazine did a great issue about underated "women of pulp greatness." My sister-in-law who susbcribes gave me the issue because their top focus was my beloved Agnes Nixon (the best soap writer/creator of all time) but there's also a great profile of VC.

Sadly this TV movie is getting terrible reviews. I wouldn't be disappointed by that, except that the four reviews I've read have all said it creates the greatest sin--it's BORING. Sigh--I'll still be watching. (The acting gets praise except for Heather Graham.)

Love it! And this little tidbit: Beyond the current contract, he’s been working on Christopher’s Diary, which would tell Chris’ point of view of Flowers in the Attic in a diary found by a present-day girl in the ashes of Foxworth Hall, where the Dollanganger kids were held captive.

Also, My Sweet Audrina was like all the crazy of the Dollanganger Saga stuffed into one book. I need to dig out my copy and reread that.

Looking at metacritic there are more positive reviews than I thought--which is heartening. I have no idea who Uncle Barky is (or why he is considered legit, as the critics Meta uses are meant to be) but this quote gives me faith for tomorrow: "The whole enterprise is alternately laughable and affecting without committing the eighth deadly sin of being boring."
