There is a film adaptation of Rain, which Neiderman claims the novel was based on a VC Andrews outline (though how many outlines did she have??) He did the screenplay as well. I think most people would consider it unwatchable, but I find it brilliantly awful. The lead character is played (fairly well) by Donna Summer's biracial daughter Brooklyn Sudano, and her (well, this spoils the plot, but the film spoils it early on anyway) grandmother is played by Faye Dunaway who seems to think she's in Gone with the Wind. Rapes, bi-racial "trauma," music and romance abound. Sadly, no incest.

It was okay, mostly. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not quite sure why people rave about Kirenan Shipka the way they do. She's fine and all, but I don't find her particularly riveting in the way the internet wants me to.

I'm not really sure what I wanted out of this so I'm still not sure exactly what I thought. I wasn't disappointed, even if I wasn't fully satisfied, I guess.

So boring-awful acting all around. Heather Graham is just atrocious-is she really the best they could get? At least the horrid original is campy and fun.

Im looking forward to Lizzie Borden.

I don't get all the Kirenan Shipka love, either. I think she's okay, at best.

Heather Graham cannot act. I am not sure why she is still cast in things. Elijah Bono was talking about her on Howard Stern, after they had broken up, and he said, "Well, she's no MENSA member..."

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I do like Kiernan Shipka but her increasingly prominence on Mad Men (doesn't help that Matthew Weiner shoe-horned Glenn into her story.... who also just happens to be played by his son) feels like a little too much Boomer projection on Weiner's part, and then there's the appeal of Sally feeling relatable of the child of 'broken household'. She's fine, I don't question her choices with the character at all, but she can feel very much an audience stand-in compared to the more adult characters.

So disappointed. I didn't even feel bad for the kids, they were so incredibly boring and whiney. What happened to seeing how perfect their lives were pre dad's death? I read somewhere that they've already agreed to film the next book in the series. Will try to find the link.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Still haven't watched it yet. Sad to hear it's disappointing.

PETALS IN THE WIND adaptation? Like, three thousand things happen in that book...it would have to be a two-parter, at least.

Loved Ellen Burstyn.

Didn't hate it.
But, oh wow - Heather Graham CANNOT act.

Still, good for a late Sunday afternoon (DVR'd it) with sweat pants and weekend comfort food.

Brought back memories of reading the books a long, long, long time ago.

Rarely have I been so bored, and I admit to a fondness for camp-trash. Alas, FITA was neither.

A sequel? I can't imagine spending 2 more hours with those people (characters or actors).

I will never understand how Heather Graham continued to get work after Boogie Nights. She was fine in that film, but good grief is she atrocious on screen.

I watched this today. I felt like the last twenty minutes or so felt too rushed. Call me crazy, but I prefer the original film version. At least there was a bit of tension in that adaptation.

Oh, and Sally Draper was horrendous too.

Two thoughts.

On the one hand it's not surprising that Burstyn is playing a role once played by Fletcher as the two could arguably have been separated at birth.

However, it is odd that Burstyn, who is two years older than Louise Fletcher, is now playing the same role Fletcher played 26 years ago.

What's with Lifetime? Is it an unwritten rule that they have to F up everything they can get their hands on? They wrecked Ambulance Girl, a story about a friend of mine, and the recent Blindsided with Michael Keaton was laughably bad. And now this. It's like no matter what the material, find a way to make it maudlin and bad.

As for Heather Graham... agree with you all. But there was one film I actually liked her in - Bowfinger. She fit the part perfectly.
